We had learned at E3 about Wiiconnect24 and how it would allow you to turn your console into a sort of server and receive demo content and in game freebies overnight. But we didn’t know if Nintendo would implement microtransactions like Xbox Live. Well now we do, speaking to Game Informer, Reggie Fils-Aime stated that new in-game content could be distributed by the online system.
“If you’ve gotten to a particular part in a game, we could push content out to you, so you get to battle a new boss. Maybe you get a new artifact; maybe you get a new weapon”
Later Game Informer asked Fils-Aime if this content could be sold by the sold or distributed free by publishers. Fils-Aime confirmed that its up to the developers/publishers if they want to charge or not.
“If our licensee partners want to go in that direction, it’s certainly possible in our system.”
This aren’t groundbreaking news but its reassuring to see Nintendo covering all its bases.
