Useless Legislation? Honolulu, HI Approves Ordinance To Ban Texting, Gaming While Driving

Not gaming while driving seems like common sense. While one can argue good judgment while texting, lawmakers in the City Council of Oahu have passed a ban on motorists text-messaging and playing video games while behind the wheel. This comes on the heels of a city bus driver was operating a moving vehicle with passengers aboard and playing what seems to be a PSP from the video above.
Determining whether this piece of legislation is useless or in good practice will only been seen from the cabin of a police cruiser. But I’d like to think these sorts of actions aren’t all that common, so I wanted to throw this out to the community… Do you game or text while driving? Tell us in the comments!

I’ll be the first one to start since I know I am most likely breaking some law in my city. I do text while driving, it’s a very bad habit and I have had to slam on the brakes one too many times when my eyes weren’t on the road.
Now for gaming…I have no excuse, it’s clearly dangerous and when I got FFT Advanced for the DS I’d be stuck in stand still traffic I would fire up a round. I wasn’t moving though…that has to count for something right?

Well, the law is there precisely to cover situations that ‘aren’t all that common’. Like, you know, killing someone isn’t all that common, thats why we have laws for it, custom defines law, that goes ‘per contra’ as well.
I only text while at a red light and gaming while behind the wheel could only happen in situations where I’m completely stuck in traffic. And even then, I probably wouldn’t.
Who is dumber: the man playing the videogame while driving or the woman sitting passenger filming a the multitasking driver without actually saying anything to the man who is essentially responsible for her life?
I would have taken a snapshot, put my phone away and told him to “pay attention to the goddamn road!”

Yeah, I think a similar law was passed where I live, because I keep on seeing these signs saying, “Don’t Text While Driving!” Because you’re stupid enough to do so in the first place! >_>
As for gaming… *speechless*
People can actually game while they drive? I have a hard enough time staying awake…
As for texting, hell I can’t text even when i’m looking at the phone. I don’t need a car to distract me to!
I sometimes text while driving. But I play my Wii in the car all the time.
I think some of the things that amaze me the most are the built in PCs into cars on the main front console allowing the driver to watch a DVD or if hooked up to a mobile navigate the internet.
Outside of that, I know I suck. I’m trying to be better.

How the hell can they do that?! Need to send an urgent SMS? PARK! Well, that is what i would do. I have to money to buy a car but at home we ran out of parking space. 4 cars is too much (and i don’t want to be the next delivery bloke)
