TOKYOPOP recently announced a partnership with DRA to create TOKYOPOP Music. This unholy label has already spawn three anime based albums that cover music from series like Initial D, GTO, Rave Master, Princess AI, Street Fury and various others. Most are the American versions of the soundtracks but TOKYOPOP’s mission goes further.
We have plans to release more than 20 albums per year featuring the coolest music from Asia and we feel that DRA’s excellent technology platform, worldwide reach and marketing expertise will serve TOKYOPOP Music very well.
This is the first move TOKYOPOP does into the music industry but they already have plans to expand their presence. Some other projects TOKYOPOP announced were a digital radio station which is already in the works and other things in the ‘manga lifestyle‘. This includes something called Mangacasts (audio mangas, WTF?!). So expect more from TOKYOPOP music to quench your thirst for J-pop, J-rock, J-hop and all things J.
