The Mask is Part of the Face

If there’s something that’s brought Japan both fame and infamy is their ability to obsess over anything. On the one hand you have superior engineering and administrative process, on the other… this.

The Japanese can and will eventually have an idol for everything, the latest addition to the ominously growing list are these, mask idols. Worn to prevent spreading colds and getting allergies, masks have evolved into fashion items. Gothic lolita masks, maid masks, schoolgirl masks and even masks on gravure idols (glorified bikini models).

There’s even a new DVD coming out featuring the best of these mask idols, its called Mask & Musume and its motto is ‘The mask is part of the face‘ which is eerily reminiscent of Silence of the lambs. Then masks are the new black? Or whatever it is you fashionistas say, I just know this will eventually become a sexual fetish.

…if it already isn’t.

considering japan, i believe this is already a sexual fetish, i miss the days when wearing a mask was a symbol of EVIL….ah the good old times…

      Only in Japan. ^_^

It’s admiring that Japan is one of the very few countries where wearing a mask when you are sick is not viewed as something weird. It actually makes sense to wear them as it helps contain disease. (if you do wear a mask in NY people will run away from you…)

Fast forward a little bit and you find those masks have trespassed the boundaries of utilitarian use and have become a sexy accessory …

      Only in Japan.

As I’ve been thinking about this, I have to wonder, isn’t it hard to breath? I wear dust masks all the time while crafting (Dremels can kick up a mighty dust) and I’ve never found it that comfortable–my lower face gets warm and moist feeling and it makes it hard to wear glasses. But then, I don’t see any of those girls above wearing glasses; I guess this is one fashion trend I’ll miss out on!

This does not botter me at all. Last time i had to wear a face mask due to a small-time lung sickness i got, some morron in highschool (and later, some more morronS) started calling me “sidoso” (or AID’S infectee) Had not been for the school teachers, i would have kicked headz that day.

Truly, most people in the West find something odd in facemasks (and i do NOT feel like that)

Don’t forget Zaki from Project Justice~! I’m not sure but in Kamikaze Girls the yankis used face masks once in a while (at least Ichiko used one or some other biker girl…)

… well, I guess this is a good way of skipping out on the foreplay.

Hahaha thats easily the best comment yet. Then again, just a little imagination will give you a whole other world of foreplay, but I guess thats a topic for some other day!
