Gaming is serious business at Berkeley, this semester they are teaching a course on Starcraft Theory and Strategy. The first lecture of the semester is now online and as you can see its pretty damn bizarre. This is the future, where gaming and academics are one in the same.
The course facilitator, Alan Feng, introduces the class and tells the class how Starcraft is life and how through it they will study everything from war to advanced math to economics. He then introduces a couple of pro Starcraft players. The course has homework that includes watching famous replays, doing math and reading war philosophy. There’s even a lab on weekends to practice what’s seen in class. A LAN Party every weekend? For School? Harsh education my friends, hard education.

So, he’s a second year physics undergrad and he’s teaching a game theory class?
Guess so. Those crazy Berkeley folks and their student-taught classes. Kinda neat, to be honest.
me and a few of my friends were just talking about this a few weeks ago. Apparently it’s hard as hell to get into that class.
Dammit all, I almost went to Berkeley!
Luckily the game classes seem to all be online in podcast form, so at least I can learn without being there….
Look, a classroom full of virgins. LOL
You’d be surprised.
They’re cosplaying so it doesn’t count…
Funny to me, this can’t be serious business :)
