Square Enix Reminds Us Why They Stick To RPGs
Wednesday 22 April 2009 @ 5:56 pm | By Ivan 'Nahu' Lozano 4 CommentsSquare Enix should really stop churning out RPG rehashes and do something new, we’ve all heard that phrase, we’ve all said it at some point, be careful what you wish for. Square Enix has announced two new titles for the Japanese Xbox Live Arcade. 0 Day Attack on Earth, the one you see above and CUBE which is after the jump.
Both games are shooters, both made by the same company that makes the prettiest, smoothest RPGs around and both look like crap.
The animation on 0 day attack on Earth is stiff at best, it looks cheap and the ultra-realistic approach to the art style looks just silly on a shooter. CUBE also looks stiff but at least it seems like it toys with some new gameplay mechanics and, for a genre that has seen nearly every Gimmick, its a welcome addition.
If only they would put a generic androgenic pretty boy inside the cockpit of 0 Day Attack on Earth… I’m sure it would sell. Square Enix, you’ve proven us wrong, stick to what you know best, pretty boy simulators.

Also, why no new Rad Racer?
