The PS3 launch plane has just blown an engine. Sony just released a press release a few hours ago announcing that the launch date for PAL system territories: Europe, Russia, Middle East, Africa and Australasia has been delayed 4 months. That is, no PS3 until March 2007. Why? Sony admits:
The revision of the launch date in the SCEE territories is caused by the delay in the mass production schedule of the blue laser diode within the Sony Group, thus affecting the timely procurement of key components to be utilized in PLAYSTATION 3.
I see, although I see no direct connection from the laser to the PAL system. I guess it went like this in the Sony Ivory Tower
A: “We cant meet our quotas on time, we have to screw somebody”
B: “Lets screw Europe!”
A: “Brilliant! You are promoted to Vice President of SCEE”
C: “But sir, thats the janitor”
Bloody brilliant Sony…
