Sony Introduces PS3 Home, A Giant Awakens

So Sony went ahead and confirmed the infamous rumor of a new set of features for the PS3, called simple ‘Home’. I’m glad to say, in these times when it seems Sony’s worst enemy is Sony, they are doing something right, something near brilliant.
Home is a free downloadable virtual world for the PS3, you can create your own 3d avatar a la Second Life, interact with other avatars worldwide, meet your friends online, play simple games like pool, bowling and arcades. Its the best of both worlds, Xbox Live meets the Wii’s Mii.
Besides your own avatar you get your own — you guessed it — home, which you can decorate with virtual furniture. Both avatar and home are customizable with freely available items in the game or special items which you can buy from the PS3 store. You can even stream media from your PS3 in your virtual home, so your videos will play on your virtual TV, your music in your stereo your photos in virtual picture frames and so forth.
Here’s a video introduction to Home which should get you up to speed as well as some screenshots. Beware, Sony’s waking up, perhaps it never was really asleep, perhaps the screaming baby and exploding raven were just there to throw us off.
