Are there times when life gets you down and in an attempt to cheer you up someone says, “you look better when you smile…”? Ever want to punch that person in the face? Think about if upon beginning your work day, you are subjected to a “smile scan”. Staff at the Keihin Electric Express Railway are now required to submit to these daily face scans which aims to boost daily commuter service.
After analyzing lip curves, wrinkles, and eye movements, the smilebot subsequently rates your mug and offers suggestions like, “lift up your mouth corners” or “you still look too serious” in the attempt fulfill the greatest potential of your smile. Employees receive a handy printout rating their smile on a scale of 0 – 100 to take and inspire them throughout the day.
I ask, why not just tack on pieces of flair to their uniforms?

Aw man, that’s kinda sick. In a bad way, surprisingly. Usually, most of the ideas Japan comes up with are good, but now… *shakes head*
most? MOST? ye haven’t seen many of japan’s ideas have you? xD
They’re quite daft for such brilliant little buggers xD
hand have had their share of the … excentric.. idea xD
and this one… this one is just too funny xD
having this done to me would definitely put a smile on my face.. considering how ridiculous the whole idea is i might even laugh out loud xD
W T F J A P A N ! ! !
Seriously. They just like coming up with this random crap :p
Haha as awful as this is I’d love to have my smile rated by this totalitarian little smilebot.
same here… i think the idea is hilarious xD
It would depress me even further. Also, let us not forget the good old “sarcastic smile”. Bet they will be looking for it as well. Expect to see someday “smile hacks” or ways to fool the system.
