Second Skin: A Documentary About MMOs And Its Millions Of Players

Here’s a trailer for a documentary called Second Skin, screened in several festivals all over last year this film tells the story of MMO’s and the millions of people who play them. Most of us have played them, some of us have lost a friend to their addictive force, some of us have been that friend at some point.
Second Skin interviews people who’ve fallen in love inside a game, found an identity they like better than their real one. Stories of success and community and of alienation and nearly suicide. The DVD comes out August 25 and it will also have a limited big screen distribution starting on August 7th. I am LFG to see this film, anyone want to join my party and… ok I’ll stop now.

I never got into the MMORPG world. The competitive vibe is suffocating.
I know what you mean. The only ones I would ever play, note this is quite a while ago, were runescape and maplestory. Just because I could solo all I want and not worry about anyone else.
I can never remain in a MMO for more than a month. The fact that most of the enemies are way powerful for my characters and the usual PvP pwneage by advanced players, always makes me leave MMO’s very quickly.
its hard to find a MMO that one can feel at home with… especially with the PVP ratio and limitations (or lack of them)
i tried several but got quickly bored because none offered me something mildly different…
the one i’ve stuck the most with is Mabinogi… the loose plot seems to have a bit more effort than others… and the combat mechanics actually involve the player.. i grow tired of just clicking a target and let the character do its thing…
but i digress xD
i do F2P cuz i dont really have the money nor the time to invest in a P2P MMO…
Hell yeah Mabinogi =D
I played a lot of MMOs, right now I’m waiting for the fourth CB of Aion. I was in the second and third CB. Aion is an MMO that I’m really looking forward to. I might even play it on the Korean servers when I go to Korea in a few weeks. It was alreay out in Korea in Novemeber 2008. Other MMOs I still play are SMT IMAGINE, SOS, and Xenepic.
It’s hard to balance out the time for MMOs, and console games. Like when my copies of Blazblue shipped and Megaman Starforce 3 I played it for the whole week, totally forgeting about MMOs.
I don’t like MMOs, i don’t get the appeal of MMOs, but this movie looks FANTASTIC!
Some years ago I tried various mmorpgs with Nahu and for some reason I get really bored being so free.
I prefer normal RPG’s.
