Rumor: New DS for 2007?

nintendo ds.jpgThe rumor mill keeps on going and the latest thing to come out of it is a supposed new version of the Nintendo DS with bigger screens. This apparently comes from several Japanese blogs and forums that claim a new iteration of the DS, supposedly set for release in 2007, would sport 3.5 and 3.8 inch screens. Quite an increase from the current 3 inch screens of the DS Lite.

Frankly, I dont buy it and here is why. Nintendo does have a history of releasing rehashed portable devices with marginal improvements but never in such small periods. If there is going to be a redesigned DS late 2008 would seem reasonable. Second, the different screen sizes, more than a couple of games display images that span both screens, with one screen bigger than the other said games would look awkward.

So dont hold your breath for a new DS, whenever Nintendo releases a new portable it will be just that, a new member of the Nintendo family.
