I read this today from a message from my friend on Facebook, and it seemed relevant to everyone’s interests here.

Downloading

10:AM Today

How many of you download things from the Internet? The good majority of you will obviously answer yes because it’s just the nature of our Internet generation. No one ever stops to think that it is truly illegal and that something might happen. I know that half of you I’ll tag download music/movies/games/software whatever from bittorent clients like demonoid or whoever and never think anything will happen. Well apparently it does, even right down to those of us who only occasionally do it. The times I would download music have been few and far between, I figured that if anyone was going to be punished that it would be the big guys who are doing this stuff 24/7 and tons at a time. I guess I was wrong. The last album I downloaded was the new KT tunstall album on the Th of September, thinking nothing of it just like normal. Well apparently it got tracked by the RAA or whoever and I’m having INTERNET privileges being revoked for I don’t know how long on my computer and there might be legal retribution. Seriously, wtf. I’ve now officially deleted any and everything I ever have downloaded but who knows if that’ll help. I NEVER thought that I would be targeted because I download such few stuff compared to so many of my friends.

So, I hope a good chunk of you take this as a warning and think twice about downloading the newest season of Scrubs or the discology of your favorite artist, it could possibly come back and bite you in the butt.
I don’t know how long or when my Internet suspension on my computer will be, or if it’s just limited to my computer or my account on the network, but I may not be on for a while. If you have anything to say, please say it/show your support/comment/whatever.
(thanks Kris, good luck buddy)

What should be done about this?

Do you think the government is trying too hard?

First they teach us to share things, and now that we share things, they say “oh no, that’s wrong!”. I understand that downloading things is unproffitable for the record companies, but hey, here’s a solution: sell the CDs for, like, 5-10 euros instead of 16-20 euros. That way, people would start buying CDS again.

… is this thing serious or… are we finally reaching the Matrix?

But what about Japanese stuff? Does he US government care?

i have heard a few stories of people compaining about anime and japanese stuff due to some copyright agreement that they signed back when clinton was in office, yeah, they try way too hard

It goes to show that they are in it to make money off of the whole downloading thing. If they truly DID care about copyright infringement, they wouldn’t offer their crap for download, even if it is just to trap people.

i guess they can’t let go their profits so easyly. At least it would garanty that no one would care less for them or downright ignore them (artits)
