In this trailer we get a glimpse of the upcoming port, and it certainly looks like it hasn’t changed much from the Playstation original in its quaint, oldschool, super-deformed 16-bit sprite style. The anime character portraits used for dialogue sequences look like they’re very well-done. Probably the biggest change from the original is the “streamlined battle system, perfect for pick-up-and-play!” It seems that the touch-screen is used to issue commands in what could be a real-time system, or perhaps semi-real time a la Grandia (a bit hard to tell from the few seconds of footage).
The game comes from a more female perspective, casting you in the role of a girl rescuing a prince, rather than the other way around for once. Also the trailer is more marketed toward the female demographic, emphasizing the musical aspects of the game, and as noted earlier, its ease of play. I hadn’t played the original, but I’m curious to see how this one turns out, and bearing the Nippon Ichi pedigree I doubt it will be a complete dud. Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure will be “dancing its way into your heart this fall!” on September 23rd to be exact.
