Resident Evil 5 Comes To The PC In 3D!

re-5

Today Capcom announced that Resident Evil 5, along with Street Fighter IV and Bionic Commando, will be ported to the PC. With SFIV and Bionic Commando coming out in July and RE: 5 in the fall this marks the newest step in Capcom’s attempts to bring its blockbusters to the PC.

No additional content has been announced for the PC version of RE:5 but it will sport a fancy new feature: 3D! The game will be compatible with Nvidia’s Geforce 3D Vision technology, allowing you to not only see Zombies in 3D, but Chris’ bigger-than-his-skull biceps and Sheva’s well endowed buttocks will also feel like they are coming out of your screen.

You may or may not know that Capcom actually released Resident Evil 4 for the PC as well and it was considered one of the worst PC ports ever, with basically no keyboard and mouse support basically forcing you to the same experience as the console versions. Now with this press release Capcom promises full keyboard and mouse support for all 3 games but adds that “for God’s sake, go buy a gamepad with analog sticks.”

To this humble editor this seems like Capcom is missing a big part of the point of releasing games for the PC, mainly that PC gamers are not that fond of controllers. So with this kind of attitude towards the PC its still to be seen what they actually mean when they say “full” keyboard and mouse support. But hey! At least there’s the promise of 3D ass, cant ague with that!

I don’t think PC games should shy away from a control pad. If a flightstick and wheel & pedals are accepted accessories to PC gaming, then a control pad should be too. There are some genres a control pad can do better than a keyboard + mouse in. However, that doesn’t excuse a lack of or subpar support of a keyboard + mouse setup.

Anyway, glad to hear RE5 PC is official and that Capcom is continuing to show some port love to the PC. Now, hopefully the net code for the multiplayer portions of their games don’t suck.

About time they ‘officially’ announced re5 for the pc, cause we all knew it was coming.

As for the shoddy port of RE4. It’s cause capcom had nothing to do with it. But there’s been enough hacks/mods for the game, to turn it into one of the BEST versions of RE4 out there (hi-res textures, full 360 pad support, depth of field, motion blur, etc)

this is great… i cant really afford a PS3 or 360 at this point… but my PC can stand up to the challenge of running it.. this news make me and my PC jump with joy :D

Why, oh why is 3D coming back? I once took solace in the thought that the fad was dead and buried. Face it; the technology behind 3D glasses have never really worked properly!

Its now using the “new” technology you’d see at IMAX 3D theaters, with the grey tinted glasses. Im sorry to say but the fad is coming back stronger than ever!

I guess its ok, as long as they aren’t using the red, blue version. The only 3D IMAX movie ive seen was one about the Int. Space Station, and it was pretty amazing.

I wonder what “full” keyboard support will bring. I still remember the RE 4 port, keyboard only and there wasn’t even a way to exit the program without using task manager. A rushed port indeed.
