Real Life Gundam: Ready For Takeoff
Wednesday 15 July 2009 @ 9:16 pm | By Ivan 'Nahu' Lozano 14 CommentsIt finally happened! The full-sized Gundam built in Tokyo went on display this weekend and guess what… IT MOVES! Well, not as we would have expected but the head does turn a bit and the eyes shine in pretty colors, the whole thing is very imposing.
Of course Japanese TV was all over the event, above we’ve got footage of the finished piece in all its glory, full day and night shots. Then there’s also a 5 minute TV segment covering the event where you’ll see the casual fans and the obsessed fans. I have to say, even having seen it in construction a couple of times before, its still very striking to see the final piece. Still, I’m holding my breath until that thing walks… or flies out of the park.

WOW! That is truly awesome. I’m not going to be surprised if one day its missing and there are giant foot steps leading to where it left.
Ah, it looks so cool. And I called it for myself that I would here the first Gundam OP.
It was really funny to see the comment “When he asked his wife to come, she said ‘go by yourself.’” Also, the Gundam viewing room!
Wait what?? Why is Gackt there?? At the end of the first video??? O_O
Prolly for publicity. After all, who wouldn’t want to go to the showcasing of a real life Gundam that a supah star went to? :’3
Either way, it’s badas*. c:
I wonder where the Gundam will be stored after the event.
WTF it isn’t gonna’ launch into space?! What a waste of time.
They just don’t want you to know it’s going to launch into space, because then it is considered a weapon.
Imagine if when they built it, it really WAS fully functioning? They all came to this event to see it, and the thing just flies off :p
Gorgeous work though.
Not many people would bother making something this epic but I’m glad that some are.
Why did they bother building the insides if it wasn’t going to move
Or fly
probably so it wouldn’t be kicked off by the wind…
and well… it does show some mobility, so i’m guessing the insides move the head.. it’d be cool if the torso and arms did likewise…
not to mention the electrical wiring for the working lights…
i salute ye wacky japanese you T^T7
for those of us who spend some time building them models with love care and too much free time this is the ultimate model building job.
it kicks ass even if it just makes pretty flashes and turns his head =)
