Re-imagining Classic Videogames
Friday 27 March 2009 @ 10:10 am | By Sol 3 CommentsBefore fancy graphics, “revolutionary” computing power, and the introduction of 10-14 button combinations, video-games were centered around the foundation of game-play. Videogames are an art form and the classics, the games that gather dust in the garage, are ones we remember in esoteric terms. They inspire us to create. The classics take us back to the roots of gaming.
After the jump are just a few of many examples of re-imagining the classics…
Artist Orioto’s interpretation of what these “classics” would be, if created with today’s technology. He is certainly dead on with many of his works and the results are stunning.
Project AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) has undertaken turning the original 8-Bit Game Boy Metroid into 16-Bit full color.
Forum members of NeoGAF have been slaving away at this bit of nostalgia. Using the LittleBigPlanet creation engine they have recreated all eight levels of the NES classic Contra. Now the real key is if the “Konami Code” works.
Lastly, in looking forward we need to review our past. We don’t want to repeat the same mistakes, especially in the area of videogame advertising.

This is just fantastic. I would love to have the same game play with super sexy graphics. I can’t help but feeling kirby is being left out of this.
Back in my youth, i wanted the HandyBoy, though i failed to see it ever in person.
How about downgrading recent hits to 8bits or even 2bits?
All those top pics remind me of Braid :P
I’ve been following AMR2 for quite some time now. But i doubt the full thing will ever be ready ;_; but it sure does look hot!
And those LBP levels are INSANE!!! I wonder if those are on the thing to download, or if they’ve been banned due to copyright issues?
