FUCK YES! Excuse me while I throw my editorial style out the window for this one. I’m just really fucking excited! If you load up this page on Square-Enix’s Japanese site you’ll be greeted by a really, really REALLY familiar clock sound. The URL for this site also ending in CTDS and the DS logo in the website mean only one thing dear reader!
CHRONO TRIGGER FOR THE NINTENDO DS! Holy crap, as much as I have bashed Square doing rehashes of games for the DS I simply cannot contain my overwhelming excitement over playing Chrono Trigger again, on the DS. There are really no more details right now but that doesn’t matter. Readers, no…. friends, excuse me while I kiss the sky!

IM SO EXCITED I HAD TO MAKE THE FIRST COMMENT TO MY FIRST POST AND TYPE IT ALL IN CAPS!
As super stoked as i am for this. I’m worried that it’s just gonna be an updated port (stylus controls, map/menu on top/bottom screen), and not anything new.
Then again, i also don’t want to see it redone in 3d like FF3 and 4.
In a perfect world, the game would still be full 2d, but with completely updated sprites, hand drawn backgrounds (or something similar), etc. Of course the music wouldn’t have to be touched, since it’s near perfection as it is. But if they wanted to orchestrate some tracks, they could go right ahead.
Heh…. a man can dream :p
Yeah I’d love for Yasunori Mitsuda to orchestrate a lot of it.
Well, turns out Square actually confirmed this. And it’s actually what i said it would be (in my first line)
It’s a straight port, coming out this holiday season. With a new dungeon, touch screen support, and some kind of wireless play.
Oh well.. who am i kidding. It’s f’n CHRONO TRIGGER!!!!
I, too, look forward to playing the game for a fourth time, on the third platform.
I wouldn’t mind a 3D port; it’s what Chrono Resurrection was about before it was nixed. (ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrono_Resurrection )
Yeah, that was a project that got too far for its own sake.
