Pop Japan Tour Lets Artists Publish Their Doujins In Japan
Monday 10 March 2008 @ 11:17 pm | By Ivan 'Nahu' Lozano 4 CommentsPop Japan Travel, the travel agency for otaku by excellence, has announced a Mind Over Manga tour to Japan where besides visiting all the cool little places in Tokyo including an anime studio, aspiring artists get to publish and sell their doujinshi at Comitia, a big convention when it comes to selling doujins.
If qualified (meaning probably that your material doesn’t suck), Pop Japan Travel will translate your doujin, print it, and help you sell it at Comitia, letting you interact with any fans and prospective buyers. Pretty much as close as a foreigner will get to feeling like a mangaka. That is unless you are Fred Gallagher and you have a huge army of fanatics telling you you are.
The price tag on living the dream comes at $2,198 but that’s without printing costs, the dream might have to wait just a little longer for most starving artists.

This is a serious as thinking that to make a movie you HAVE to go to make it in Hollywood, though, out of leisure, this tour seems quite nice (if i have US$5,000 to spare that is, and if i already are a succesful entrepeneur/wealthy enough bloke)
i still read Megatokyo since (late) 2001. I see the ole debate-stoning subject of “Are mangakas only from Japan?” or something along the curve (for “line” is becomming a boring term on these sentences)
Thanks for the article!
Yes, this is definitely a vacation for artists who want to sell a few manga, not primarily a business trip.
Though everyone knows you do have to make a movie in Hollywood. It’s the law. ;)

Doing it in Japan does give it a sense of legitimacy, you do it anyplace else and youre just a very talented guy, but do it in japan and youre on a whole ‘nother level. Its about persuation, its about adding to the story you sell of yourself as an artist.
Its awesome if you make delicious italian food, but if you get the italians to buy it, it says a completely different thing.
Also, its nice to see you guys check your incoming links, thanks for the visit Ben!
