Otaku Crash Course with Shoko-tan

How do you explain what being an Otaku is all about in under 30 minutes? Better yet, how do you explain it to someone who is completely out of the loop? Well you’ll need an Otaku crash course like the one Jpop Idol Shoko Nakagawa a.k.a. Shoko-tan did for a new TV show called Private Lesson.
Her presentation is absolutely delightful, she’s the perfect bridge between the normal world and the Otaku subculture, she tells it like it is. During the show Shoko-tan manages to explain from the correct spelling of the word Otaku to the different levels of Fujoshi and Otaku taxonomy. All while refreshingly authentic, no fake moe idol crap.
The final two videos after the jump, definitely check them out if you want to see Shoko-tan cosplay and act a whole evangelion scene using her cat as both an angel and an Eva.
And then she goes and cosplays Doremi and Vegeta, I think I’ve found my first idol!

Wow, I’ve learned a thing or two here, thanks! :-)
It’s definitely nice to see how someone can be a real (W)otaku and be so sane at the same time. And then she’s cute, looks awesome dressed as Suzumiya Haruhi and… talks like a bullet.
Perhaps I should show this to my wife… It’s ok to be an Otaku you see?
Then again, you’d be following that statement with “Because a japanese pop idol in crazy costumes says so” which kinda makes the whole point moot.
Let’s just skip that part shall we… :-)
Please think again before to post a video.
