Ever seen a character in an anime and wished you could marry them? How they’d be the ideal significant other and/or bride? Well, Japanese otaku have, and have desired their waifus enough to the point of starting an online petition which, upon reaching 1 million signatures, will be sent to the Japanese federal government. The gist of the petition is as follows:
We don’t have interest in the 3D world. If possible, I want to become the husband of a 2D character.
Does not look like this matter can be solved with today’s science and technology so at least make it legal to marry a 2D character.
I’ve yet to see an instance where an online petition has ever actually accomplished anything, so don’t go rushing to fill out those marriage forms quite yet. With barely over 1,000 signatures, the petition still has a long way to go, too. I can only see this escalating the hikkikomori problem in Japan, so should it make it to a million signatures it’s even less likely that the government will look kindly on it. This is just another instance of bizarre love gone wrong.

Oh those wacky otaku. Best of luck to them, though I don’t expect anything.
Oh gawd…this is gonna’ end badly.
and here i thought all these cries of “mai waifu” were harmless. shows how naive i am.
Really weird, although. At least if you are having an argument with a 2d character you can just draw a thought bubble.
Oh no… now someone’s going to steal Kana Minami from me! What will I do now!?
Dibs on Jun Fudo.
