Ok guys, here’s the up to date info on what we have learned from the NY press event called A Celebration Of Gaming. Photo of the event by engadget.
- The Wii goes on sale on November 19, not much earlier from the Japan release date.
- The price is set at $249.99, oh yes, thats well below $250. Nintendo keeps its promises, all right.
- Reggie says “one price, one configuration, one color”. A stab at MS and Sony’s strategies, but the color thing is rather dissappointing. That color is white.
- Wii sports does come bundled in the American package, (!) There had been no launch bundles since the SNES days.
- According to reggie there were 104 titles showcased in Tokyo earlier today. Wow!
- Ammount of launch titles seems to coincide with the Japanese launch.
- The online system will have 12 channels at launch, for more info on channels see our previous posts.
- Avatars are indeed called Mii.
- The internal memory on the Wiimote serves to carry around your Mii avatars.
- Wii Remote is $39.99. Nunchuck attachment is $19.99.
- The Wii points cards will be sold as 100 points for $1 USD. So a $20 card gets you 20000 points.
- Prepaid cards will be sold in Canada and Mexico under the same structure as in the US. Hurray for me!
- 4 million units by years end.
- No details are being given at the moment about DS/Wii functionallity.
- Apparently the picture editor in the Wii’s photography channel can manage some sort of layer system and do video playback.
Thats it for now, expect a rundown of the aftermath later today.
