NISA Press Event: Release Dates, Delays
Friday 6 June 2008 @ 10:14 am | By Chris 'Taco' Martinkovic 1 CommentThe Nippon Ichi Software America press event came and went a day early, rather than on the 6th as stated in the RPGamer interview. There were no major game announcements save for one DS title. The rest was stating release dates.
We’ll start with the good news. As you probably read a couple days back, Rhapsody DS is coming to North American shores. With a Japanese release date set in early August, we didn’t expect to see this on shelves until at least Q1 ’09. However, NISA stated that the game will be in our hands as early as September.
NISA reiterated the August release window for Disgaea 3, also stating that the downloadable content for the game will be available on the North American Playstation Store as well. This new content includes new characters, maps, and story chapters.
Now for the bad news. Citing big name games like Final Fantasy IV DS also hitting the market in July, NISA has decided to push back the release of Disgaea DS to September. They also decided to nix any subtitles on this version of the game, titling it simply “Disgaea DS.” They also put out another trailer, which GameVideos decided to mislabel as a “Disgaea 3 DS” trailer. If only.
The game is shaping up to be a worthwhile port. Graphically it looks on par with the PS2 release (Which makes you wonder just what that says for the graphics to begin with), and the promise of a playable Plenair only makes the deal sweeter. Perhaps the extra months to wait will give us time to level up another team of characters to Level 9999 on the original.
Release dates aside, NISA announced the plans to bring a new project to the states: An Action/RPG for Nintendo DS called A Witch’s Tale. The teaser shown didn’t showcase any actual gameplay, but a very Halloween-y atmosphere and what looked like the six main villains. We’ll be keeping our eyes on this title for any future developments.
That’s all from the press event. In a perfect world there would have been a couple of GUST titles included, but we can’t have everything go our way, can we?
