Codename Revolution reports that Nintendo filed a patent yesterday which describes plans for a more feature rich online platform for the Nintendo Wii. The patent titled “Messaging service for video game systems with buddy list that displays game being played” describes a system which uses player profiles, buddy lists, anonymity option (to omit personal data such as name and location) and many other features.

Some of the features and details from the patent:

  • Information on the profile includes: Alias, name, gender, age, location, favorite game/hobbie/sport, URL links and notes (journal anyone?).
  • Ability to publish highscores and other in-game data.
  • Buddy list with IM via text (on-screen keyboard) or voice (Wiimote microphone).
  • Avatar creation with Pre-made graphics and the option to use digital images (soy, form a digital camera).

Lastly the patent states that this could also be implemented in a portable system (DS).
