Well here is a good example of hopeful thinking! Anime News Network has proclaimed that, based on a couple of small news items, rumors and ten barrels of salt, a new evangelion film (or films?!) might be in the works! What they claim leads them to believe this are job postings on Hideki Anno’s (director of Evangelion) website, he’s looking for a key animator and production staff. They would be working on a project named Khara.

Then there is Gainax’s Evangelion site, which apparently added Khara to their copyrighted properties. And finally the domain Khara.co.jp has been registered by Ikki Todoroki, who’s worked with Hideki Anno before.

What exactly is Khara? Well in Hindu mythology Khara was a man-eating Rakshasa (a kind of shapeshifting demon). In other works of fiction Rakshasa have been portrayed as aliens or diverse outworldish emissaries. You know, like the angels in evangelion?

This is indeed completely unofficial but I think that the evidence at least confirms that something’s lurking in the waters. Kudos to Anime News Network on this premium find. Evangelion fans rejoice, they’ve been pleading for something like this for years!
