New DS Confirmed: the DSi

At Nintendo’s big press conference tonight, Iwata wasted no time in announcing the newest incarnation of the DS: The DSi. Along with having bigger screens (3.5 inches each), this new DS will include 2 3 megapixel cameras, SD card support, internal memory, and a DS version of the Virtual Console. It can even play MP3s! From GoNintendo:
- 12%, 2.6 millimeters lighter, no more GBA slot
- bigger screens, better speakers, 300,000 pixels cam
- screens are 3.25 inches
- camera and audio functions
- two touch screens (according to IGN)
- pictures taken should be able to be manipulated via touch screens
- pitch and sound playback speed can be adjusted
- SD card slot
- store then view pics on Wii Photo Channel
- internal memory for apps
- built-in web browser
Wii Points have been renamed Nintendo Points, and can now be spent on the DS as well as the Wii. What’s more, if you so much as connect to the DS Store before March 2010, you get 1,000 points for free. DSi apps are divided into Free, 200 Points, 500 Points, and 1,000 Points. The DS Station demo centers,which let you download demos for upcoming DS games, are moving into "Phase 2". It just seems to mean they’ll be featured at McDonalds.
Nintendo’s newest money printer will be available on November 1st in Japan for 18,900 Yen, or roughly $180 US. No release date for the USA, though it’s confirmed to be sometime in 2009.

Oh man, the new DS sounds sweet! I really want one, but at the same time I’ve only had my DS Lite for about a year now…but the advantages of the new one…*drools*…
Im geting this, My old ds the silver kind that they first came out with died in a boating acsident that involved me in the water with bagy pants shoes a way too big half life 2 shirt and no life preserver and yes i tryed drying it out
*sigh* I had to eat my own words with this release. I didn’t think they would redesign the DS. But the new improvements are pretty cool. I wonder if this will mean more rich games with the internal memory.

Bigger screen and smaller. Damn nice tweaks. Add some downloadable games and we’re awesome!
The camera and the music playback are some nice extras. I think there’s one low-res (640×480) camera facing the player and a 3 megapixel one facing out.
This is what i dont like of the console wars. Having to dish out 150 or more dollars for your gaming needs. As long as gaming does NOT become a need, then you can wait for a year or two for a budget-sharp deal on this.
