Every now and then a new incarnation of hacking apart a console and throwing it in a different case occurs and makes it to the internet. In this case, an adventurous modder going by “Bacteria” has made his own Frankenstein-esque creation. What sets this one apart from the others, though, is that you can swap systems out at will. The only cartridge completed so far is the N64 one, but Bacteria promises more on the horizon:
I have completed the first phase for the system - the Nintendo N64 (one of the harder systems to mod), my next one will be the SNES; after that I will also adapt the following into this project: NES, Megadrive (Genesis), SMS, Amstrad GX4000, Jaguar, PlayStation, GBA (GameBoy Advance) with TV output, various plug’n'play systems for arcade gaming.
Once the TV output is complete the device will jump from a clunky-looking handheld to something that sounds a bit more feasible in terms of portability. If the size could be shrunken down a little it would be something that I could see myself investing some time into.
A video is available on the site that shows the console in action, and documentation (including a step-by-step guide) will also be made available sometime in the future. Be sure to check it out!

Ah, nothing like hacking and shrinking big consoles to a portable hulk.
