Miss Yun Fang & her big bad Bahamut
Wednesday 4 November 2009 @ 3:32 pm | By Random J 3 CommentsD’ya know that Australian sounding chick in the last epic to the eye balls trailer of Final Fantasy XIII? Well, she goes by the name of Oerba Yun Fang. And as you can see, Oerba is a bit of a looker. Sexy in a mysteriously exotic kinda way. But the name is a weird one. It sounds like a Korean delicacy! I honestly would’ve preferred her name to have been Oerba Kimchee (seeing as I touched on the subject of Korean delicacies and all). Her name certainly gives licence for Final Fantasy XIII’s black dude Sazh to drop a corny line like “So, your name’s Oerba Yun Fang? Woooo, you a young thang!” and then give a reassuring look to himself like he just dropped the funniest and slickest line ever. I actually wouldn’t mind that…
Oerba shares part of her name with the red pig tailed heroine Vanille (full name: Oerba Dia Vanille). No details have been disclosed on if there’s a connection between Yun Fang and Vanille. I’m certainly not going to read into it too much just yet. There is every chance the 2 ladies could be blood related. But then, ‘Oerba’ could just be a name given to people of a particular race, colony or tribe within the word of XIII, and the two of them just happen to both be a part of it. We’ll know soon enough.
Yun Fang is a member of the main party, and is therefore playable. Her Eidolon is the powerful Bahamut – who has gone through more cosmetic changes than Michael Jackson. At least he’s ditched that stupid wagon wheel he had on his back in Final Fantasy X. I wonder what he’s going to transform into… A Gundam? A Honda Civic with a spoiler, 45 inch rims and mounted gun turrets? Or perhaps a plane with a cannon on the front that can unleash a massive damage ‘Mega flare’? I’m just assuming he’ll transform into something given how mecha-esque he looks. Now to wait for a trailer where we get to see Miss Yun Fang do her thang and see how she’s roped into the story and lives of the now well known XIII crew.

Transforming summons is a whole new level of weird for the franchise. Maybe some one in the developer team liked the new movies.
Bahamut has a humanoid form and a dragon form, I believe, look on the official site.
Hey, I thought that wagon wheel was cool!
