Update: it was all a joke played by some of the other IGN editors, har-har…. I guess.
Matt Casamassina, the man behind Nintendo at IGN, the Sheppard of the fanboys, the messiah and sometimes enemy has announced he is jumping ship! No longer will he herd the legions, no longer will he infuriate the fanboys with honest comments, no longer will screenshots of his desktop be scrutinized for industry secrets!
Matt now wants to do either Xbox 360 or PS3 news. His reason: “not into this job anymore.”
My most-wanted games right now are DOAX2, Heavenly Sword, and Motor Storm — and none of these games are coming to a Nintendo platform.
As of last week, I’ve put in a request with Tal to let me run either the PlayStation 3 or the Xbox 360 channels. Although he won’t admit it, Doug Perry’s heart is still with Nintendo, so I’ll most likely be swapping positions with him. Doug ran N64.com and was my boss back in 1997, so it’ll be like giving the keys to the city to the old mayor. With both Rare and Silicon Knights making games for 360, it’ll be like returning home for me, too.
I hope Nintendo fans won’t begrudge my decision. If you like my writing, just follow me to the new platform. If not, enjoy Doug’s and Bozon’s insane ramblings on IGN Wii.
See you on the other side.
Although many a fanboy heart is getting crushed this very instant you have to give it to Matt for quiting for one of the most noble reasons, good luck to Matt in whatever else he ends up doing.
