After two decades of last seeing Mad Max out and about on his adventures, it seems his finally coming back, as a 3D anime feature film.
It was a given that someone would try to bring Mad Max out from the grave but as anime? Never thought I’d see the day. George Miller, writer and director of the old Mad Max films, told MTV that “the anime is an opportunity for me to shift a little bit about what anime is doing because anime is ripe for an adjustment”.
So not only is ol’ George going to revive a 23 year old franchise, he’s going to revolutionize anime while he does it. Along with the film project Miller is also working with Cory Barlog, of God of War fame, to develop a game that ties in with the movie. The whole project could be seeing the light of day in 2 to 3 years, according to Miller.
A tall order, a tall and bizarre order. Are you excited? Perplexed?

It better live up to everything it boasted. Otherwise, i will laugh at it. I am not sure if George Miller can compare up to William Gibson.
P.s. Watch out for Fury Road… or Furry Road.
Seeing as how kooky the series is and that it gave us Thunderdome, I think this might work for the better.
However, seeing as how id Software’s Rage and Gearbox’s Borderlands are up and coming, I don’t know how the Mad Max game will stack up.
Stylistically, they might be able to pull this off. I’d same it depends on how gritty or graphic they want to make the anime and movie. While my initial reaction is why? I’ll give the benefit of the doubt until I see something tangible…
If its anything like Kawajiri’s Highlander anime it should be well received. However, if they go with a more light-hearted approach and go with something that resembles Naruto or Inuyasha, it might not go over so well. And if that is the case it will get no such love from me.
I’d love something in the style of Vampire Hunter D, gritty animation, lots of harsh light. Manly men and sexy women.
But its 3D so who knows!
Fist of the North Star managed to capture the essence of Mad Max pretty well. As long as they do something more like FotNS and less like the garbage anime that’s being produced currently, it should be alright.
I always found Max to be kinda hot.
