Link Goes Industrial With Zelda: Spirit Tracks

9 Comments

At the GDC, Nintendo announced today a new Zelda game for the DS, Zelda: Spirit Tracks. The game places our green-robed hero out of those green robes and into a train conductor outfit. That’s right, this new installment in the Zelda series is all about trains.

Sporting the Wind Waker aesthetic it is still unknown if it will take place in that timeline, there’s also no explanation as to how Link found a train… or who laid all the tracks.

A train is perhaps the most advanced technological device ever to have appeared in the Zelda universe, it frankly gives me an uneasy feeling and raises a ton of questions. Could we one day see link riding a car? Or maybe an Epona X600 motorcycle? It seems Hyrule has entered the industrial age, when will link start fighting global warming? Will we one day see a steampunk Zelda game? With a steam-powered Master Sword that releases steam when you swing it and goes “choo-choo”?

I could go on all day, but I wont. What do you guys think? Is the game a trainwreck waiting to happen or is this the little Zelda game that could?

…ok I’ll stop with the train puns now.

    Being a huuuuuge fan of phantom hourglass, i do NOT like the looks of this game.

    The whole train thing, gives me the feeling that there’s tons of traveling back and forth in the game. And the whole ‘partner in dungeons’ thing just looks like it’ll get annoying. mostly when you’re trying to fight AND have it fighting at the same time.

    I’ll wait til the full game is out to make my judgement on it. But i’m not that excited for it ;_;

    I think they want to have fun with the DS stylus and since the windwaker Link cartoon sytle I guess they went childish on the game too. Hopefully it wont be too boring of game. I no I dont think the master sword will shoot out steam but maybe the bow?

    I’m hoping the train won’t an odd piece of technology in the fantasy world. It would be a nice change to see a Zelda game take place with more advance technology. Well, without firearms of course.

    This is going to suck, I just know it is.

    WHERE THE FUCK IS MY STEAMPUNK ZELDA, NINTENDO.

      Thankfully there are several steampunk inspired games that seem to be coming out this year. This is my favorite genre.

    I guess we can all agree that Hyrule or whereever he is shouldnt be that high lvl of technology and it wont take like 5 min just to fucking go the next panel like wind waker.
