Leaks: PSP Go is finally revealed
Saturday 30 May 2009 @ 9:37 pm | By Ivan 'Nahu' Lozano 10 CommentsThe new PSP is Go! Quite literally, this is the new PSP Go, the next iteration of the PSP line, and it has just been leaked unto the internet. Much like with Nintendo and the DS/Game Boy, Sony says its not trying to replace the current PSP with the Go and that they will live together happily every after on the store shelves. Here’s what we know so far:
- Smaller size and 43% lighter
- 3.8 inch screen (the PSP 3000 has a a 4.3 inch screen)
- Slide-out controls
- 16GB of built in flash storage
- UMD drive is gone
- New Metal Gear Solid game coming to it!
- Complete integration with the PlayStation Network
- All games and media will be digitally distributed
- Memory Stick Micro, WiFi and Bluetooth support
- Coming this fall
So there you go, a brand new PSP and still another day until E3. A pretty unimpressive device if you ask me. Score another point for digital distribution which is great and another for piracy as this device just became, in concept at least, more hacker friendly than before. Lastly, score another point for ugly gadget design, the Go looks cheaper than the PSP 3000.
What are your thoughts, are you planning on getting one this fall or better stick to the 3000? Do you like the new design? Let us know in the comments.

I feel almost like this is going to be iPod v2 or something, but you won’t be able to talk on the phone and it will still be ridiculously over-priced. I’ll be interested to see what the price tag is on it, but frankly, I never got onboard with the PSP. I just felt like it was too small and rather clunky, and of course the Go is supposed to be an update of that, but I still think it’s going to be way overpriced for what you’re getting.
I’m not liking the control placement. I’ll like to see how it feels, but looking at it I don’t like it.
I quote myself:
“Es como enorgullecerse de tener un dedo más pero hecho de oro. Le veo casi la misma funcionalidad, pantalla más grande y ya.
Creo que lo más difícil de modificar será que tenga algo touch un PSP y dudo que lo hagan sin no ser llamados “bandwagon jumpers” o “borregos”. Por lo que veo, la teconología touch que muchos aparatos han abrazado tan rapidamente SONY se niega y se negará a incorporarla a esta consola, no sé si por orgullo o por motivos tecnicos.”
Lets face it, this is something more estetical and vane on SONY’s part than an actual improvement. As long as SONY does NOT CONFRONT the fact that even now car alarms controls, videogame consoles, mobile phones, PDA’s, mp3 players and many more devices use TOUCH-TECHONOLOGY, they will remain kind of “out of place”, unless they prove or it is proven that touch-technology is wrong or bad.
It doesn’t look comfortable, and STILL no second analog stick????
also… what exactly do you do with your old games?
Buy them all over again for your PSP Go! Can you not feel the EXCITEMENT of giving your money to Sony AGAIN? >:D
NEVER! lol
I’m thinking they might off some sort of trade-up program.. or SOMETHING? That’ll give you access to getting rid of your umds for a digital code or something. Either that, or some form of tool that lets you rip your own umds (oh wait.. sony would NEVER do anything like that ;p )
Yeah they are just gonna get your money again.
it looks like a very, very dumb slider smart phone…
i mean .. the Virtual Boy at least had an excuse to be badly designed…
this, its like they’re doing it on purpose…
So, the “Go” is for “Go give us your money AGAIN”…
“AND WHAT’S WITH MY TOUCHSCREEN AND WHERE’s MY 50,000 GAMES eh? I had 100 500GB cards!”
I still feel we are beign left out of something… besides the obvious, of course.
