Japan has, for some years now, been increasingly supporting the use of its subcultures to drive tourism. It used to be ninjas and samurai in the 80’s where everyone was turning Japanese but these days its all about Anime, cosplay, maids, gothic lolitas and video games. In the following video, recorded from Japanese TV by the awesome folks at Japan Probe, a news segment explains the drive of Otaku Tourism in recent years and even interviews a few Otaku Tourists.

As the Argentinean otaku tourist in the video so eloquently put it, its cool!

Hmm, how long will it take to make anime/manga/videogames the main source of income of Japan xD?

Ever thought the consecuences? Just considering it one of those “What if…” scenarios.

    2. Nahu says:

It would mean the colapse of both the Japanese economy and the subcultures. It would be chaos!
