Itasha: Pimped Cars Otaku Style

Of all the places Japanese Otaku can showcase their wares cars are perhaps the least frequent one. For one not many Otaku actually drive a car and second, its too public, its a big commitment that goes beyond having a life sized doll in the closet or cosplaying for Comiket. Well that’s evidently changing, Pink Tentacle links us to a Japanese gallery of Itasha, cars with everything from anime decals on the body or crystals to fully modified interiors with plushies, figurines, body pillows and even full computer and monitor setups.
Itasha literally means painful car, which follows the trend of self deprecating titles such as Fujoshi (rotten woman) and Otaku (obsessive dork). The guys at Pink Tentacle speculate that the increasing appearance of Itasha is due to the recent acceptance of Otaku culture in Japan. That’s a good answer to the question of why, but I ask, how? Some of those cars look pretty damn expensive as do some of those interior setups. Where are they getting all these money and how can I get some of that?

These guys make me want to have a car @____@ i normally loath cars and car-talk (so much for beign a home-loner)
Perhaps it would be a good idea to see images of fellow otaku who may not exactly have an ubber-otaku-pimpage of their car but that they can make some subtle change as:
-Having a bumper sticker that reads “My other car is an EVA 01/Gundam/Nekobus”
Actually those subtle modifications I see almost everyday on friend’s cars. A single plushie on tha back of a sticker somewhere in the car, but cars like those will never have the same shock value as these… mobile monuments to Otaku culture!
i love pimped cars so much especially speed ones
Where can you get these paint jobs at?
Very cool cars I just saw a youtube vid from NDTV about it and also from another user showing some hot BMWs and american cars. I also realize this article is by internet standards ancient!
