Nintendo of Japan and GiFTPiA developers skip Ltd. have joined forces yet again to produce another off-beat game that is sure to never come stateside, but look fascinating nonetheless. Captain Rainbow follows an ordinary fellow, Nick, in his quest to make his superhero alter-ego, Captain Rainbow, famous by wandering around an island and interacting with forgotten Nintendo characters, such as an obese Little Mac from Punch Out or a platoon of Famicom Wars Soldiers. A few GiFTPiA characters even make appearances.
What’s more entertaining than the name, though, is the ad campaign they’re pitching. Someone has been kind enough to translate a whole bunch, so you can experience the character introductions that feel more like a reality TV show than a video game. The commercials also give some brief glimpses as the minigames that will undoubtedly be a big part of the game. It’s bizarre to be sure, but nothing I wouldn’t mind playing given the chance.

This looks wickedly fun and all in true Japanese fashion.
