Gabe Newell Wants Half-Life To Get Scarier

In an interview with CVG Gabe Newell talked a bit about the future of the Half-Life franchise and while few concrete things were said one thing was totally clear: Half-Life’s going to get a lot scarier. As Gabe Newell put it:

"I feel like we’ve gotten away from genuinely scaring the player more than I’d like, and it’s something we need to think about, in addition to broadening the emotional palette we can draw on."

To be honest I’ve never found the Half-Life series to be all that scary. Sure headcrabs can surprise you every now and again but anything less than making giant headcrabs crawl out from the dark and chase you wont see me getting scared anytime soon. In fact Ravenholm, HL2’s supposedly scariest part is probably my favorite. A nearly endless stream of headcrab zombies  and enough stuff to throw at them with your gravity gun for hours of endless fun. Half-Life isn’t Silent Hill, it shouldn’t be.
