Finally Touch A 3D Girl Without All Those Pesky Criminal Charges.
Tuesday 22 July 2008 @ 3:56 am | By YuecchiSome of you might remember this particular article about augmented reality otakuism written by Nahu a while back. Well guess what? Someone decided to make a potential cash cow out of it!
This augmented reality cyber maid figurine named “Cyber Figure Alice” by Geisha Tokyo Entertainment Inc. looks like it could be the answer for those otakus (or geeks) who don’t have the money or space to invest on actual PVC figurines, nor have the time to go out and look for a proper relationship with, y’know..real girls.
Usage of this deceivingly seedy product seems fairly simple. The purchaser is given a software CD, 2 cybersticks for prodding and 2 cybercubes, one of which is used with a webcam to generate the digital figurine. The cybersticks can be used to do a number of things, some of which include peeping, fondling, and yes, you guessed it, undressing the little thing.
“Cyber Figure Alice” will be out for retail sometime this fall, so those who are desperate interested in acquiring this little gizmo might want to look out for it then.

SO I just sent an email to these guys to get more information. I can’t wait until more AR stuff gets into the public hand. While this may raise an eyebrow, using software/hardware like this in games or say a city for the tourism bureau would be amazing. Imagine going to a city you’ve never been in, scanning an image of a bus stop with you camera phone and up pops an interactive map you can plan your route around entertainment locales.
oh man that idea is great, Sol…but the concept of your own 3d girl sunds nice too ;) .
Well, depending on how easy the source files for the models can be changed or possible using the ARDev kit to “tweak” some settings this could provide some interesting edutainment. Strictly to learn augmented reality programming of course…:)
Hmm, ill have to get my hands on this.. you know, for research purposes.
I remember a couple of years ago some guys did a gaming experiment with this technology turning the real world into a FPS game. The possibilities are amazing, mix this with GPS and suddenly the world is your scenario.
Soon very soon… I think gaming companies are on the cusp of developing more technologies like this as phones are becoming more powerful and cheaper to produce. Until that happens “Alice” will remind me that one day I can look forward to a future like Blade Runner & Total Recall, actually I’ll just go for Back to the Future II.
