I remember years ago talking with my brother how cool it would be if they made a DB movie, with real life characters, then word came out it was coming, I was so excited…
BUT after watching it I was speechless, i mean what the F***k, seriously. those of you who say that they didn’t want to follow the original storyline OK, you can make some changes but what they did was not to change the story a bit but make something completely new.
If the movie’s name wasn’t Dragonball nobody would have known what it was about.

Not to start listing all the things they srewed up (It would be a looong list)
Their major mistake was to put the plot in today’s planet earth COME ON PEOPLE what were you thinking.

the 3 biggest things they messed up:

in the end you see piccolo survived, (he didn’t he spit up a big egg containing his son/reincarnation the piccolo must people know)

Shenron became European.
in the anime and manga he resembles an asian dragon, while in the movie his head clearly resembles European dragons.

db is all about fighting right, so why dont they cast martial artists instead of crappy actors, for intance guys like ony jaa donnie yen. Once you hav a good cast, then u can write a decent script and hopefully a good picture.

i loved dragonball, i grew up with it, dragonballs lyk heroine 2 me, this movie fuken descraced dragonball 2 me, it fuken upset me seeing them make evolution, as soon as i heard they were making it i new thed fuk it up, it wasnt ever gonna b an easy movie 2 make, in all credit 2 the makers of evolution it wuda luked shit if they hada made goku luk lyk goku, think about it, an actor with hair lyk gokus? luks cool on a cartoon but in a movie? get real, plus yes goku shud hav been a little kid but if they hada goten a kid 2 act it probley wudof cum out even shitter, kids cant act, but going bak 2 critisizing them….

I totally agree with you 100%. I can understand changing some of the details of the show to make it fit in to a movie, but when you change the story completely then how can it be called an adaptation. There better not be a sequel because they will be getting into the dragonball z story, and if the fans find out that they are going to mess with that just like they did with Dragonball than there is going to be a riot all over the world.

I’ve followed DB ever since it came out in the late 80’s all theway to the final episode. I KNOW DrangonBall, and that pile of steaming crap that came out was NOT DragonBall.. Everyone is bitchin, but few are making VALID points. Yes, the movie sucked balls after watching it the second time, but seeing it for the FIRST time in live action was a great experience. This movie was YEARS in the making. Rumors flooded the internet as well as fan-based magazines and then finally hollywood gave in to the people’s demands. But u gotta take into account that these production studios are after onlyone thing: MONEY! And if there is a big risk, they holdback the tools that are necessary to complete a great film. The budget for X2: X-Men United was a whoppin 100 million dollars. DB’s budget wasn’t even HALF of that. Which means that writer’s didn’t get paid well, newbie actors got jobs along with 2 established well-known actors (chow yun fat and ernie hudson) to give the movie SOME sort of credibility. Shooting locations were limited. CGI was minimal and outsourced to some guy living in a hut in the middle of Afghanistan who was still working off of Windows 95. Hollywood spent NO money and made over 50 mill. NOW they see some potential and hopefully will be willing to spend a lil’ dough on part 2. Maybe DB will fall victim to the “Incredible Hulk Syndrome” part 1 sucked, but part 2 kicked ass when they (hollywood) re-thought their strategy,, invested a little more funds, and got the input of several “hulk-ologists” as well as input from Stan “the Man”Lee. So let’s keep our fingers crossed and hope for the best. Hollywood…if ur out there reading this and needhelp, don’t be afraid to call on the fans

When I first came across the movie, I felt disappointed with the actors they used for Goku and Bulma, and felt Piccolo’s costume was crap. As many others have said, the quality of the graphics doesn’t make sense when you consider other films that have been made like Xmen, matrix or Harry Potter.
So I knew they would change many elements of the story before I watched the movie. When I watched, I realised I quite enjoyed it, despite it being a fourth-rate movie. There are about 15 anime movies of dragonball, and many of us have watched them, so what would be the point in making films out of those movies? So they changed the storyline and made a different Dragonball which even though never will be as good as the original anime series, is entertaining in its own right, and this is the aim of the director and producer.

Its really sad to see that a lot of “Fans” just wait for the whole “Super Sayajin”-Action and don’t care about the story, the charakters. thats what Dragonball is really about. A little boy that never give ups, fights till his limits and gets stronger and more mature with every fight or new friend he finds…

and this got totally lost in this crap that they call db-movie….

I dunno guys, I had extremely low expectations for the DB movie. It beat my expectations, so instead of it being a horrible movie, it’s a “meh movie. Seriously, a lot better than the Chun-li Street Fighter movie. I had high hopes for that one :(

In the second one, there better be Super Sayaijins or I won’t bother watching.

yea i agree with everyone that says the movie sucks, it does, but then again i did enjoy it i give it about 2-3/5 as it could have been a hell of a lot better, ive been following DB,DBZ,DBGT for about 10 years now and know a lot into the storyline etc, and yes i agree most of the story was cut out, but since fox was successful in the matter and making a second one i think we can only hope they spark a flame again into all us hardcore DB fans :))

Look, i know it wasnt like the series but it was never going to be. You cant base a film purely on getting the normail fan bace in. I kinda liked it, you slate it saying it was nothing like the cartoon but they daft jokes were in there and the basic story line was there. By the time he fought piccolo he was already in his teens anyway and the second times he was like 17 and chi chi was all over him. I think the next one could the the final battle with piccolo where they could intorduce krillen and tien etc and train with roshi for the torniment where piccolo comes back. Then there all nicely set for z where piccolo is kind of a friend when they have to team up. If they go straight to z now there gona struggle but it can its all do able and its not that bad. lighten up and enjoy a new twist on it.
