Dr. Phil & Games: Chaos Ensues This Week
Tuesday 14 August 2007 @ 7:35 pm | By Jonathan_Leo 5 CommentsGamePolitics recently stated on their website that the (in)famous Dr. Phil McGraw, of Dr. Phil show (duh), is scheduled to tackle videogame violence scheduled this Thursday. His stance on the issue? Here’s a quote from the horse’s mouth, when he was interviewed on the Larry King Show:
“…the problem is we are programming these people as a society. You cannot tell me – common sense tells you that if these kids are playing video games, where they’re on a mass killing spree in a video game, it’s glamorized on the big screen, it’s become part of the fiber of our society. You take that and mix it with a psychopath, a sociopath or someone suffering from mental illness and add in a dose of rage, the suggestibility is too high. And we’re going to have to start dealing with that. We’re going to have to start addressing those issues and recognizing that the mass murders of tomorrow are the children of today that are being programmed with this massive violence overdose. “
So far, his guest for the show will be a “game violence specialist”. As long as his or her name doesn’t rhyme with “Jack Thompson”, the videogame community can calm down. Then again, this is a show associated with the word “media circus” and “publicity cruxification”, so I’m not sure if there would be anything positive coming out of this.

… im not going to say he is right but neither that it is completely wrong…
and yes, i DO believe that killing is GLORIFIED on videogames.
Unfortunately, it is. Designers should be careful about newspeople blowing things out of proportions before releasing “cheap-shock” games onto the market.
