A couple of days ago Sony Computer Entertainment and BandaiNamco announced the creation of Cellius, a subsidiary company who’s purpose will be to develop software for the Cell Broadband Engine. This last part is very ambiguous, since it doesn’t necesarilly mean the PS3, the Cell Broadband Engine is finding its way into other applications. The press release even states that the company will develop ‘interactive entertainement’ and ‘business content’, which does not necessarily mean games. Maybe a spreadsheet for the PS3? Who knows!
More importantly is that the company will be headed by Krazy Ken Kutaragi, a man on a mission to prove to the world that the PS3 is our one and only true savior. Perhaps the biggest gain from this deal is that with Kutaragi partially out of the picture, Sony can start trying to prevent drowning in a sea of bad PR.
At $824,000 (Cellius’ founding budget), its a hefty sum to keep Kutaragi’s mouth shut.
