Ever since they used a timer countdown gimmick for their announcement of the US release of Persona 3 FES Atlus has seemed to like dropping hints about what games they’re publishing before actually announcing what games they’re publishing. Sometimes the games are a little less obvious; This week’s announcement of Dokapon Kingdom for Playstation 2 and Nintendo Wii consisted of nothing more than a written letter of apology. However, this new teaser is a little more incriminating.

I thought to myself, “Hey! I recall seeing cards like those before, usually while pulling out my hair in frustration over a particular Strategy/RPG!” Sure enough, a quick check of the Yggdra Union Japanese site (Hint: Check “TacticsCard”) revealed those very same cards.

What does this mean? It means that the PSP remake of Yggdra Union, the second episode in the Dept. Heaven series, is coming to the US.

What differences can we expect from the original? Naturally, the PSP remake features redrawn, higher-res character art and sprites, a rearranged soundtrack previously only found on the Yggdra Union Audio Collection Plus CD, and voiced dialogue, likely fully voiced much like the Riviera PSP port.

Along with these new cosmetic changes comes gameplay mechanic changes and other new additions. Videos from the official website show that the squadron size has been upped from six members (Five generic + the leader) to eight for units on foot, and from three members to four for mounted units.

Screens from Famitsu’s preview of the game indicate at least one new character, finally giving us a permanent scythe-user as an addition to our army. Perhaps this addition will tone down the frustrating, sometimes brutal difficulty of the Gameboy Advance incarnation.
