Analyst predicts PS3 lead in this generation

ps3.jpgYankee Group, a Boston based research firm believes (based on funky magic) that the PS3 will enjoy the biggest market share by 2011. With 44% of the market share, followed by the Xbox with 40% and the Wii with 16%. Oh, wait, it gets better. The company also believes that less units will be sold in total this gen compared to last. Why? Because 44% of the market will be held at gunpoint to spend $600 on a console.

I’m sure this guys mean serious business, but are they even paying attention to preliminary market response? Where they at E3? I’m sorry, I’m sure the PS3 will be an awesome machine, but putting the Wii at 16% just doesn’t quite add up (well, mathematically it does). Something tells me this guys predicted the PSP would be the hottest thing since sliced bread. Who’d want a portable with two screens anyway?
