Well, I’m a little surprised here. This short 3-part film by the great Makoto Shinkai won that prize at the first annual Asia Pacific Screen Awards on November 13. It beat another great movie, Summer Days with Coo, and it was the only Japanese film that won something. Strange isn’t it? I mean, not to be harsh, but even though the story was mellow and the animation very detailed, I can’t see 5cm as a winner of something, outstanding nevertheless, but not Best Film.

Hmm, I wonder if it would’ve won if Wonderful Days were to participate. Last but not least, congratulations, Japan! Keep making the good anime you (sometimes) do!
