Hollywood: $200 Million For “Manga Movies”

As if we weren’t under heavy siege by Hollywood, a new production company by the name of Cerenzie-Peters Productions is looking to invest in getting more videogame and “asian manga books” into the silver screen. In fact, they’ve already raised $200 million dollars in capital with which they plan to go shopping for juicy franchises. This does not bode well.
Furthermore, the company only plans to spend $20 – $30 million per movie which means 2 things: First, that we’ll get 8 or 10 of these films. EIGHT OR TEN! Second, that this movies will have a humorously tiny budget, so the end result is bound to to look cheap.
So lets recap, we’ve got Dragon Ball Evolution coming out soon, then there’s the Akira project, Cowboy Beebop with Keanu Reeves, James Cameron’s Alita, and that Ghost in the Shell project as well. That’s 5 movies that already have us teeming with rage. Now we’re getting double that.
Brace yourselves, friends, cuz its about to get ugly…er.
EDIT: Woa! I messed up my movie names, although Keanu in GITS would be hilarious. I’d cast him as a Tachikoma.

you mean cowboy bebop with keanu reeves, right ?
Yeah sorry about that! :P
If you know Reeves is in GITS too – let me know! :-)
I wonder if they plan to make all Live-Action films. Anime movies could do better here as animation, but when you compare the production value around Asia, with a single film easily at $100 Mil, to US distribution you’ll see we just need to either localize films and pay for good voice acting/translation. Or pump more $$$ into their production.
Hollywood must’ve ran out of books to adapt. You’d think they would be more wary ever since Speed Racer bombed.
Its still cheaper than *gasp* original stories!
This is going to kill my last hope for movies to be good. -sigh- Back to my anime
I’ll purchase anything with the GITS name on it no matter how bad it turns out.
Don’t forget Evangelion, although that one has been “in the works” for such a long time I doubt it will see the light any time soon.
Wasn’t that project never more than a rumor?
The News: In an Evangelion panel at the Ohayocon anime convention in Columbus Ohio on January 30th, ADV director Matt Greenfield announced that several U.S. studios are competing for final rights to the project, meaning that actual production should begin soon. The delay on the project is due largely to the Transformers movie:

(Also, i was at that con, it was fun =3)
Woa, that one went below our radar
So, Evangelion will come the day after Cencorol wich comes one week after Duke Nukem Forever… Steamware, yes yes.
Why don’t the japanese make re-makes from American movies? Perhaps they will rate better!
They are. Though it’s mainly just anime adaptations of US live action films. Highlander, the announcement of Mad Max, and i’m sure there are others i’m forgetting.
I dread! Dread the cowboy bebop with Keanue as Spike!!
And I honestly demand blood for the atrocity that is DragonBall Z movie for a former fan to avenging anime lovers everywhere!!!
I can only say I think James Cameron’s Alita might be good just because his movies rock….except that one about some ship sinking somewhere >p
Yeah Cameron’s Alita is promising, only that he does like one move every decade so we might as well never see it.
Well supposedly his movie Avatar is coming out ( I don’t think it’s related to the anime Avatar) and supposedly Alita is coming out next year….
but supposedly Evangelion Live Action has been supposed to come out every year for the last 5 I think. I just got to say Hollywood leave the terrible manga/anime live-action adaptions to Japan and China they can pull off cheesy and people still love it.
**though the live action Blood looks sick in a freakin awesome way**
And lets not forget (or if you haven’t heard already) there will also be a Priest movie coming out -_-. The horror/western Manga is a work of art (in my opinion) but turning it into a Hollywood movie just makes me feel like they are going to royally mess it. The first script summery (that i read on imdb) was going to have Ivan hunt vampires that kidnapped his niece…. But the manga is about fallen angels and the fight between those forsaken by god…
Sadly that’s too deep for the general public…
Hollywood is just trying to capitalize on known names, fuck the content. =/
It’s a sad state of affairs…
