iPhone Sweetness, Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies

IMG_0217.PNG

Last year we felt Apple’s chest pounding on the iPhone being the greatest mobile gaming device ever, was a bit premature. Now with nearly 100,000 apps and counting, the iPhone continues to be in the headlines as both indie and corporate developers further exploit the technology producing rich content and memorable experiences, although I’d add we continue to mock said statement. In the case of Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies (CoDWaRZ?), the IdeaWorks Game Studios port of its console counterpart delivers. While one of the more expensive apps, the $9.99 goes a long way and is sure to suck down your battery life.

The app allows for multiplayer over WiFi and Bluetooth, with a promise of DLC in the future. After I got it installed and played the first tutorial round I found the controls a little wonky, but you have the option of using the accelerometers in leu of the onscreen virtual controls which provide the feeling of more control. It takes some getting used too, but I know I’ll be playing this for some time.

The Zombie Apocalypse Is Here… Again

Oh yes, it’s that time of the year again, the time where strangers and relatives turn on you, get violent and an insatiable thirst for flesh. No, not the start of the holyday season, although that makes sense, I’m talking about the Zombie Apocalypse, it’s back once more with Left 4 Dead 2. The game just got released a few hours ago and I’m giving it three thumbs up (it’s a birth defect). But just as with the holidays, the spirit of the zombie apocalypse is also that of sharing. So let’s share the warm fuzzy feeling of shooting the horde of the undead together!

Join the Dark Diamond Steam Group where you’ll be able to play with some of us as well as with other dear readers. You can bet that’s all we’ll be playing for days. Also feel free to share your Xbox Live Gamertags, phone numbers, credit card details and social security numbers.

L4D Wasn’t Scary… Until The Teletubbies Came

I always enjoyed Left 4 Dead but I never really found it terrifying, not even a bit scary, until the Teletubbies came. Left 4 Teletubbies is a L4D mod made by Flameknight7, which replaces zombie models with the Teletubbies, complete with the ‘he-ho’ sound those horrid creatures made. With a few gory zombies left for ambiance this mod turns L4D a lot more sinister and, I have to admit, a bit startling to play.

Now if they’d only substitute the Tank for Barney, the Witch with Baby Bop and the Hunter with IT the clown, we could call it a day and be done with many childhood frustrations.

What A Wonderful Zombie Apocalypse

The zombie apocalypse was never so wonderful as when Luis Armstrong composed this song based on it. An avid zombie hunter that Mr. Armstrong, you know? It is in fact quite well known among zombie-hunt historians that Luis Armstrong would go out at night singing this very song while shooting zombies in the head with a hunting rifle. His favorite weapon, thought? His trusty trumpet fitted with explosive darts. Jazz was never so deadly.

Zombie Boot Camp: You Need To Take Some Notes

Know as the “Ultimate Horror Maze”, the Fuji-Q Highland amusement park in Japan is considered the world’s longest (roughly .6 mile) and scariest zombie-infested horror house. However, organizers temporarily closed the zombie laden labyrinth due to the loss of its scream inducing edge. During the hiatus, a Zombie Boot Camp was developed to hone staff in the proper undead artistry.

So very soon, October will be here and I will get all my cheap thrills dressing up, going to horror houses. It’s cool to see a year ‘round fright fest, too bad it’s a sea away. Also I was expecting to see a little Thriller in the mix.

Japan Trains Its Toddlers For The Zombie Apocalypse

While Japan is obviously getting ready for the come of our future robot overlords, by ushering the come of said overlords themselves, then teaching the future generations how to defend against it with shows like Gundam and Macross.

However Japan is also getting their young ones ready for a bunch of other impending emergencies, like the Zombie apocalypse. Like in the video above when a TV show subjects 3 little kids to a simulated Zombie attack, complete with setting up traps, barricading and melee combat. These kids will outlive us all when the undead rise.

In all seriousness though, as hilarious as this is, if it were done anywhere else besides Japan people would be outraged at the trauma they are causing these kids. Myself? I think that kid at the end is now more of a man now that all of us could ever hope to be.

Left 5 Dead: Amazing L4D HDR Photos

l5d

The guys at Night Zero, famous for their photo webcomics produced a collection of Left 4 Dead images with some pretty convincing models. A total of 10 shots, all shot in delicious HDR for that delicious lighting effect. They claim these are early promo shots for a live action movie, probably fan-made, however we dont yet know if the project is real or not, or any additional details for that matter.

In any case, enjoy Left 5 Dead, as much as the title is ruined, the images are superb!

Resident Evil Degeneration Review

sss.jpg

Back in November we posted the first scene of this full-length CG animation. While previous Resident Evil films have drawn upon elements of the series, Degeneration is set in the game universe, centering around Leon Scott Kennedy and Claire Redfield doing what they do best, uncovering secrets and killing zombies.

More Zombie Killing: Dead Rising 2 Confirmed

Lookin' kinda Servbot there.

Not even a day after the supposed Dead Rising 2 trailer got leaked onto Youtube, Capcom confirmed that Dead Rising 2 is being developed and will be released for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and the PC. On top of that, they announced that Blue Castle Games, a Canadian developer, is working on it along with a number of the original staff, as opposed to Capcom itself developing it.

The game is set a few years in the future and takes place in a place where the zombie outbreak hasn’t been contained yet: Fortune City, a Las Vegas-like city with casinos, lights and the usual fare. I couldn’t care less where it takes place; as long as I can kill more zombies and they fix that stupid save system, I’ll be looking forward to this one.
