Hi there, you seem to be new here! Here at Dark Diamond we frequently update with news about video games, anime, Japan and other cool stuff. Head on over to our homepage or go ahead and subscribe to get updates! Enjoy!
Back in 2006 Miyamoto let lose a few comments about how the next Zelda game after Twilight Princess would be completely different from any previous Zelda game. Allegedly they were aiming for some sort of first person Zelda game, which we kinda saw with that crossbow training minigame.
Now though, Miyamoto is saying the next Zelda will use the MotionPlus Wiimote accessory to “make you feel much more like you’re actually fighting while holding a sword in your hand”. Now at first this makes me think this might mean the next Zelda game will not be as different as previous ones since in the same Q&A session Miyamoto implied similarities in the game mechanics. However, as much as it’s been tried, even with Red Steel 2 using the MotionPlus, there’s yet to be a game that can adequately capture the act of waving a sword around in-game.
Also, knowing Nintendo, the MotionPlus will be a requirement for this next Zelda game, so you better get your hands on one as soon as you’re able, lest you be left swatting flies. Get it? Swatting flies? A reference to waggling the wiimote in games? Mario Paint? Ok, that was bad, I’m sorry.

Well well, the freemasons must be hyruleans because there’s a triforce in the dollar bill! With any luck this will make the next National Treasure movie include a visit to Kakariko village and Dan Brown’s next book will talk about the hero of time and his lost sages. Ok, ok, I’m taking it a bit far but it’s a slow news Sunday. Now go look for a dollar bill and gasp in awe. Done? Now go show your friends.

As quick proof that in games the music can make a world of difference here’s a mashup of The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks with Ozzy Osbourne’s Crazy Train. This is a game I’d play, I bet it has you riding the train as fast as Zack Wylde’s guitar solos and the Ganondorf final battle would have you do a rock-off against him with link shreading on a triforce guitar. Yeah!

At the GDC, Nintendo announced today a new Zelda game for the DS, Zelda: Spirit Tracks. The game places our green-robed hero out of those green robes and into a train conductor outfit. That’s right, this new installment in the Zelda series is all about trains.
Sporting the Wind Waker aesthetic it is still unknown if it will take place in that timeline, there’s also no explanation as to how Link found a train… or who laid all the tracks.
A train is perhaps the most advanced technological device ever to have appeared in the Zelda universe, it frankly gives me an uneasy feeling and raises a ton of questions. Could we one day see link riding a car? Or maybe an Epona X600 motorcycle? It seems Hyrule has entered the industrial age, when will link start fighting global warming? Will we one day see a steampunk Zelda game? With a steam-powered Master Sword that releases steam when you swing it and goes “choo-choo”?
I could go on all day, but I wont. What do you guys think? Is the game a trainwreck waiting to happen or is this the little Zelda game that could?
The Legend of Zelda; its influence can be seen in art, baked goods, fashion, philosophy, it knows no bounds. Adding a notch to the inspiration belt, it seems the Triforce is the muse of two rap artists, at the same time, with the same album name. And while there may be some dispute about who had, what first; Fact o’ life yo’, when some bitch stealz your rhymes you pop a arrow in their ass. That’s thug life in Hyrule. Peace.
Samples of each album and direct (free legit) downloads of the entire composition after the break.

Now here’s a piece of gaming memorabilia I’d proudly frame and hang on my wall. It’s a cross-stitch of the map from The Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past. Servotron, an entrepreneurial user on the Spritestitch forums, took 4 months to finish this piece. Fortunately he has posted the pattern for the map so if you’ve got a cross-stitch machine… or an inhumane amount of patience, this could save you a bit of time.

Because no one demanded it, and due to an overdue “A Look Back @” column still in the works, I bring you yet more equations that may amuse or bewilder. I’m surprised Gamers(TM) hasn’t lodge a complaint on my inspired “borrowing” of their shtick. I’ll get on with serious stuff soon, but for now, enjoy:

While fans worked their asses off to make OOT a 2d game, it turns out Eiji Aonuma, creator of most of the latest Zelda titles wants to make A Link to the Past into a 3D title, or so he said in a recent interview.
Ocarina of Time was the first title I worked on, and I was continuously tackling challenges every day during its development, so I think this is the title I feel I impacted the most. I believe that experience made me what I am now. I always think about what we couldnt do and what didnt work well in the previous game when we start a new title, but theres no game that I would want to actually change as such. I have to say though, the first Zelda game that I played and felt potential in was Link to the Past. Im actually very interested in what it would be like if we remade that title as a 3D game.
Now that sounds totally sweet but somehow I doubt Link turning into a pink bunny translates well into a 3D game.

Wait, I mean Legend of ZEL-da. Because of, you know, the whole internet forums bitching about Link’s new cartoony look. Oh wait, that joke’s 3 years old? Review after the jump. Read more!

That interview with Square Enix’s Shinji Hashimoto we posted about the other day contained a bit of trivia on how Nintendo develops Zelda games. According to Nintendo Dream, the magazine conducting the interview, Nintendo has a “Zelda Steering Council” which decides what’s appropriate for a Zelda game and what isn’t.
So link turning into a pink bunny and then a wolf is all decided by this mysterious council. I dont know what goes on inside that council chamber but I’m pretty sure consciousness is altered in some less than legal ways, how else can you explain Tingle?
