Capcop has being quite vocal about Resident Evil 5 at this E3. Sadly, as vocal as they are they end up repeating the same stuff everywhere. This leaves us with but a few new details of RE5.

As far as the story goes, we know that its set 10 years after the destruction of Racoon City. With Chris Redfield working for the BSAA, a bio-terrorism fighting organization. He’s sent to Africa to investigate some sort of biological attack that has happened there. We also know that parallel to all of this, Chris has been tracking the original virus used by Umbrella . Coincidentally, both events lead him to the same town, Kijuju, how handy!

You Do The Math…Gaming Math

In lieu to British magazine Games(TM), and due to being stumped on a coming article, I give you a little dose of real-life equations which, unlike real equations on your last calculus paper, could be fun and related to what has been going on in the past years. Because if you can’t make fun of the videogame industry, who can you make fun of (apart from politicians and celebrities)?

Games For The Year’s End

Consoles.jpg

Why this guide, of all times? Because there are other games worth playing apart from Halo 3.

Nine months just fly by so fast. For the gamers, who may have stumbled upon this page by chance, by now you have already “finished The fight” with the Master Chief and tried to pull off an aerial loop 8 out of 10 times on your PS3 Sixaxis controller. For the rest of you, you’re probably bored with Wii Sports and the Greek pantheon-sized library of portable puzzle games and brain trainers on your DSs and PSPs. Regardless, your consoles are gathering the proverbial dust until the next year when the next Final Fantasy, Grand Theft Auto or Metal Gear Solid will come out. Three months of nothing is indeed a long wait.

Fret not, dear wanderers of the world wide web, as I have compiled a list of future must-own titles for all the major consoles the average joe (and the hardcores) would be using in 2007. Yes, the PS2 does count, you next-gen elitist snob. These games will be released in between the month of October up until the Yuletide grasp of December, minus the snow and the occasional fat guy miraculously sliding down chimneys without fear of getting stuck. Not convinced? Here’s a few potential hits to keep you salivating to your mouth’s content:

Mass Effect (Xbox 360)

Release Date: November 28

Mass Effect.jpg

This hyped-up coming attraction needs no introduction, but just as a refresher: you control a lieutenant in charge of a rag-tag group of humans and aliens as you attempt to save the world from mass planetary genocide from the Geth. With Bioware’s well-known reputation for creating immersive and epic storylines, evident in their take of the Star Wars and Dungeons & Dragons franchise, the space-opera that is Mass Effect boasts a way to change a direction of a conversation with a flick of a thumbstick, meaning you can go from seducing that blue alien hottie, to “kowtowing” her beliefs the next instance. Coupled with life-like graphics and the elements of a tactical first person shooter (FPS) into the combat system, and you will not be disappointed by Bioware’s latest.

Super Mario Galaxy (Nintendo Wii)

Release Date: November 12

super-mario-galaxy_01.jpg

Even with the recent E3 announcement on Nintendo making their stand on casual games, they still do care for their hardcore audience in a form of Mario’s latest platforming antics. Our plump and proper plumber now jumps across from planets to planets, which could mean a breakthrough from the medium’s norm. Just like his previous games, you have a plethora of powerups at your disposal, ranging from a Bee Suit which makes him float and fly, to the Ice Suit which lets you tread water easily as well as create blocks of frosty platforms ala Bobby Drake from the X-Men movies. I’m guessing everyone who owns a Wii probably had their calendars marked for this “second coming”.

Rock Band (Xbox 360, PS3, PS2, Wii)

Release Date: November 20

rock-band.jpg

Remember Guitar Freaks and the Taiko Drum series that were abundant in the local and international arcades? Well, Rock Band for both PS3 and Xbox 360 is a combination of the tools used in those games, except you also have a bass guitar and a microphone peripheral in the mix. And instead of playing alone, you can grab three of your friends and jam together to legendary tunes like Black Sabbath’s “Paranoid” and Radiohead’s “Creep”. No actual guitar, bass, drum or mike skills required; anyone and everyone can join in, because this game can make you unleash your inner rock star.

Jump for more titles you need reminding of.

Halo 3: Same Fucking Fight?

halo-3_01.jpghalo-3_03.jpghalo-3_02.jpg

Hey, at least you start outside in a forest this time. Guess there can only be one Library, huh?

After all the bullcrap and the launch party at New York, videos of people throwing duffel bags through a window, and the oodles of “memorial” ads littering game sites, I get to play Bungie’s final game of the trilogy which is synonymous to that thing you see on Jesus and angels. So how fares Halo 3, you wonder?

Japanese Eternal Sonata Demo Goes International

Wonderful news Xbox owners, if you’re among the lucky ones who have a Japanese Xbox Live account it seems like it might still be useful. Reports are showing that not only can you download the Eternal Sonata demo that’s on Japanese Xbox live, but that it has menus and dialogues in English. How about that? Could it be that Microsoft is starting to understand us? Lets hope so! In the meantime get downloading and be sure to tell us anything dirty you find on young master Chopin, like syphilis or something.

GTA IV in 5 days?

I have heard from a couple of sources I respect that there will be an announcement made by Rockstar regarding GTA IV in 5 days. This really should come as no surprise as Rockstar has announced several GTA games in early march, San Andreas included as it was announced on March 1 of 2004. As much of a tradition it is and as much as I trust this sources, I’ll file this in the rumor file.

Its also worth mentioning that it has long been expected that GTA IV will take place in London just like the expansion to the first GTA game, London 1969. As much as I would love a British GTA antihero, I think I’ve had it with the retro settings. And lastly, its also rumored, but my sources wouldn’t comment on it, that GTA IV will make its way into the Wii.

5 days, get the countdown going!

Zelda Vs GOW Vs Elder Scrolls. Game of the year FFA!

aias_logo_425.jpg

The Academy of International Arts and Sciences has just announced the nominations for the 10th Annual Interactive Achievement Award, and to no one’s surprise, Gears Of War is nominated on very important categories like: Console Game of the Year, Action / Adventure Game of the Year, and Overall Game of the Year.

The Legend of Zelda: TP and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion also appear with 6 nominees each. Add to the match the infamous Guitar Hero II and the addicting Wii Sports and watch the brutal fight for the “Game of The Year” Award.

Fallout 3 Survives Oblivion

fallout-3.jpgThe UK’s Official Xbox Magazine has, in its latest issue, an interview with Todd Howard from Bethesda, in which he resurrects hour hopes in Fallout 3. After a no-show at last year’s E3 (well, besides a poster), more and more people were calling the title vaporware. But now it seems like the game is Bethesda’s top priority.

We started work (on Fallout 3) in late 2004 with a few people. We only had about 10 people on it until Oblivion wrapped, but most of our staff is on it now.

We have pretty long preproduction phases on our stuff, doing concepts, design, building prototypes, and such. We should be ready soon to show it off, but we’ll see.

Well this should certainly bring joy to some people who are die hard fans of the series.

Ghostbusters game more than mere ectoplasm

Ghostbusters-2.jpg

Remember those Ghostbusters videos we had here a couple of days ago? You might also remember that besides finding out the videos came from Zootfly, an european developer, we had yet to find out exactly what was that we saw. A game in the making? Super secret project? Some bored employee’s lunchtime project?

Well Zootfly updated its website with good and bad news. Indeed the videos are of a Ghostbusters game in early development, running on Zootfly’s proprietary game engine. Sadly the project has hit a standstill due to IP ownership problems. The Ghostbuster’s franchise is legendary in its ownership complexity but the Zootfly team is hoping to resolve the issue and get back to work soon.

And if the project never saw the light of day, not all is lost. Zootfly is also working on another game, called TimeO which is ‘closely related’ to the Ghostbusters game, it takes place on an alternate dimension New York, where the whole city is a war machine bent on destroying our world. Sounds just like the original Ghostbusters movie. Get the hype machine running, its time.

Halo 3 TV ad - Highly anticipated men in armor. . .

The Halo 3 TV ad is here, and it still explains nothing, which is good (in a way)!

Dammit, even as a non-Halo fan i still wanna know what’s up with that “fight”!

SPOnG Plays Xbox 360 on an IMAX Screen

gearsofwar224031l.jpgThere was a time when here at Dark Diamond HQ we felt privileged and spoiled by being able to play games on a nice projector. Hell, even playing tetris on a 2.5 meter screen is awesome. We where kings of the world.

Now we feel like lowly peasants.

The guys at SPOnG somehow managed to play Gears of War on a freaking huge IMAX screen. Thats a 20 meter high screen. In fact, an IMAX screen has the exact same size as my house’s terrain. A screen the size of my house!

Also, it had a state of the art dolby surround 5.1 system, you know, the cherry on top.

Guitar Hero II gets burninated

TROGDOR REAL.jpg

And so we come full circle, internet memes come into videogames. The ballad of Trogdor will be a playable song on Guitar Hero II as a bonus track. Ain’t this a beautiful industry?

TrogdorBonus.JPG

I plea guilty of having sang the whole thing dressed in full metal regalia along with Velcor, and you geeks probably did it too, but at least I am dragon-man enough to admit it!

Microsoft already planning next console.

masterchieflight_215.gif

I really don’t like this. Microsoft stated that it’s already working on another XBox. Well, I’m not really worried about they making it, since it’s obvious they would, but my question is WHEN and HOW.

Microsoft member Chris Lewis told to European site Kikizo:

You can’t sit back on your laurels in this business - the consumer won’t let you, the developers certainly won’t let us. So that’s happening right now.

Has Microsoft decided to enter the motion-sensing arena? Or Will they apply more horsepower to the graphical way until we can see videogame characters’ facial imperfections or splats of makeup that male RPG characters use? and also… Will they wait the 5-year minimum limit between generation and generation to launch their console?

Talk about it in the comments section!

“Halo used to be cool” Walktrhough of Halo betas

This video found by Walter over at Game Break shows a walkthrough of some early Halo betas with developers and designers from Bungie doing commentary (and sound effects). Apparently Halo was originally a 3rd person action shooter with rainbowy skies, lizards and Hummers.

Best developer commentary: “Halo used to be cool!”. Yes.

Halo soundtrack orchestrated

Its always cool when game music gets played by the fans, specially when its orchestrated. This time Halo gets it when some kids on a highschool variety show play an orchestra ensamble on it. Lookie:

No disrespect to fans out there but ever since I first played Halo Ive only been able to describe the soundtrack with one word: Bland. Give me Yasunori Mitsuda any time and I’m there, I’ll even throw my man-panties at whoever is performing! But this, like a busted warthog, doesn’t go anywhere.

Thanks Faith!
