In Case You Missed It: The Month In Review – October

monthyl wrap up october

As we wrap-up another hectic month, in true Halloween fashion, we had a scare of our own. Nahu and Velcor were down with a sickness by the H1N1 bug. Thankfully it was only temporary, but while they celebrate dia de los muertos, the rest of us get to don our favorite costume idea, eating candy and watching horror movies. What did you do for Halloween?

The posts this month seem be all across the board, but here’s what got you talking the most:

Modern Warfare 2: The Elusive Banned Video
When you’re guaranteed to sell a bagillion copies of a videogame, you have to up the ante. When does it go too far? rbk3ai tells it to us straight: can i say you all are a bunch of P***YS its a game.

Windows 7-tan: The Whole Nanami Madobe Voice Clips
Nahu provides us with with his take on the Nanami Madobe Window 7 theme: it turns errors into features and nerd rage into a moe-induced trance.

Kirsten Dunst’s Cosplay Was For A Movie: Akihabara Majokko Princes
While snaggletooth Dunst was playing dress-up for a music video, it seems part of a larger project highlighting the Akihabara culture. Thankfully the film is in the hands of Takashi Murakami. I’m sure we won’t be let down.

Did You Know: There’s A Triforce In The Dollar Bill
You know where you hear stories about the founding father’s being part of a secret society? You can find traces of the Illuminati in the pyramid, the seemingly insignificant spider in the corner, and now the Triforce hidden in the “e” of the $1 bill. Sleuthing fenixdown110 says: There’s Hyrulians among us and high up enough in the government to influence the printing of money. Conspiracy!!!

Movie Night: “The Dumbass Who Stumbled Through Time” Edition
The movie night for this month involved pudding, and lots of it. Pudding so good one would travel back to the moment after they ate it, just to eat some more…this was certainly a love story… Angelywind cries: OMG I can’t cry more TT.TT… oh wait… yes I can T^T so sad and so fun, that I love it.

Well, there you have it. We are looking ahead for what November will bring. You guys have any suggestions? After all we are here to serve the DDN community.

In Case You Missed It: The Month In Review – September

month-review-september

After taking a much needed vacation, I seemed to miss a lot around here. Whilst I was relaxing, taking in the waves; you all were busily sharing your thoughts. We seem to hit on a lot of topics this month, but I found the common thread to be based is societal differences. Here’s what you had to say:

“Video Games Are Evil”

After Gundam creator, Yoshiyuki Tomino told gamers “video games are evil” and are the harbinger of death to the planet, the DDN community provided their own analysis which proved to be a very lengthy and spirited debate. I recommend reading some of the comments. Videogames can be treated as a hobby and hobbies give way to culture. Keeping this in mind Velcor provides a poignant saying, “A person without culture is just another potato sack that eats and shits!”

Movie Night: The Mindfuck Is Over, Perfect Blue Is The Winner!

After much debate, Perfect Blue was chosen as our first foray into a community movie night. Furiously chatting away we laughed, gave our own theories of Mima, but most importantly had lots of fun….at least that is for the ones who could make it… Ninjaarashi laments: How the- what th- argh… I had this sinking feeling that something, somewhere there was awesomeness that was being had. I totally missed out.

Have You Seen Sadness? It Looks Like This

All I can really say is I Estelle:

more YAOI!… Or, wait, would this be considered yuri? Oh no, he probably still has his penis.. so yeah, it’s gonna have to be yaoi! Although, I’m not too sure why anyone would want any of that. I mean, c’mon! Those tight garments aren’t flattering at all.
Ah well. It’s still a well planned-out invite for some ‘hawt’ yaoi. LOL, if Link’s a boy, he’s welcome to give the man his well-deserved medicinal of dose of YAOI <3
… Yaoi! lol

Anime Reunion? Here’s A Good Start.

Velcor gives it to us straight: Let’s say we [fans] can play among ourselves and keep wanting more. . .The Verdict: A somewhat-balanced geek gathering that can be more if it introduces actual anime to the mix.

Clearly a much better experience than the previous debacle.

Movie Night: Cyborgs, Time Travel, Dogfights And Condiments

The resounding success of our first movie night gave us the opportunity to wanting it to be a reoccurring theme (we try lots of new things around here to find the ones you like the most). So movie night – round two is planned for this Friday. Stay on top of the news for the event and join us in watching The Girl Who Leapt Through Time.

In Case You Missed It: The Month In Review – August

This month we got a little older...

We learned a little bit about one another this month; some shared personal horrors, others gave virtual kisses or made wild assumptions about fantasies. With so many opinions flying around we wanted to bring the DDN community together for a movie night. Now if we can only choose the movie…

Here’s what got you talking:

Soapbox Saturday: How Not To Do An Anime Reunion For Profit.

Relive Velcor’s otaku hell: It was dark. It was cold. I was cold. I was uneasy. I was deprived from the glee that normally went along with my Saturday. I was angry.

Let’s Watch A Movie! Vote For Your Favorite!

We needed a break and thought what better way to enjoy ourselves than to be with friends. We’re still tallying the votes, so make sure yours gets counted.  josh says: I want A True Mindfuck i havent had one in at least a month:)

Mameshiba: Its A Dog, It’s A Bean & It’s going To Ruin Your Day

Knowledge bombs as told by small bean-dogs amounts to some unnecessary trivia. Don Juan” Nahu has the moves:

Is that how you romance the ladies? “You know when people kiss 200 million bacteria get passed around each second… but not all bacteria is bad” *wink*

Japanese Girls Flock To Their Mobiles To Buy Yaoi

The title speaks volumes, however it appears it’s not just the Japanese that go for yaoi. “Head in the clouds” yaku says: We women can be just as nasty or more than men.. – I’d like to put that theory to test.

Comic-Con 2009: Shameless Consumerism At The J-List Booth With Peter Payne

While covering this year’s Comic-Con, Nahu had the opportunity to speak to J-List’s big boss, Peter Payne. Like all conversations where us men are involved it took a turn to sex. FemFriend Estelle fantasizes: Everyone loves it when men submit to men!… Except for probably the straight ones… But everyone knows that they have a curious side waiting to be probed and dominated and humiliated and just plain fucked senseless by another man! <3 – Yes I had to include the whole quote.

So there you have it; another month passes us up. As the summer ends, you’ll either go back to school, graduate looking for new horizons, or just live your day to day activities. Just make sure you visit us everyday, keeping us informed while balancing work and play. You’ll also want to watch out for our movie night. We’ll let you know where and when it’s showtime. All you frequent commenters better be there!

In Case You Missed It: The Month In Review – July ‘09

DDNJulyReview.jpg

After the journeyed halls of Comic-con we dust ourselves off and look back at July. This month brought us the end of our B-day give away, I stirred up some controversy with games geared for girls, Random J tells his travels in Japan and we gather up some pop-corn to watch RoboGeisha or possibly Gundam take-off to space.

Here’s what you had to say:

DoubleStandard In Gaming? Life Lessons In Tween Games
Estelle says: Power to the ovaries!!! I think that pretty much sums it up.

Death By Shrimp In RoboGeisha Debut Trailer
Angelywind says: hahahaha Geisha transform you are the best XD. You really should plan your next movie night around this film.

Random J In Japan: In The Club
Random J says: Whatever you’re into, I’m sure there’s a club that caters to it in Japan. Speed Grapher anyone?

Marvel And Madhouse Announce Anime Adaptations Of Wolverine And Ironman
While we all liked Ironman’s revision, we don’t have a general consensus on the new approach to Wolverine. What’s your take?

Real Life Gundam: Ready For Takeoff
Kuroneko says: i salute ye wacky japanese you T^T7

What will August bring us? As always we plan some good stuff for you guys. Keep reading and keep the comments coming. Also in shameless self-promotion, check out my interview with the creators of Bad Kids Go To Hell.

In Case You Missed It: The Month In Review – June ‘09

June Posts.JPG

The end of June is a somewhat somber occasion, but this month we saw a lot action. DarkDiamond celebrated our bday. The Japanese invented non-meltling ice cream. Project Natal appears to be the next big thing for immersion in games and many more topics that got the conversation going.

Here’s what you gabbed about the most:

It’s our Birthday And We’ve Got Presents For you! Join The Contest!
It’s been 3 years. On internet time, that really is forever. Things come and go, but we plan on sticking around. We’re hard at work for all our readers. Plus we’re giving away some great schwag.
A closer Look At Project natal: Is It Really A Wii Killer?
When we first saw this demoed we had a reasonable amount of skepticism. Let’s face it as Desfunk said, “it’s still a fantastic idea if they can pull it off right”. That’s a big IF…
Gundam Dons New Outfit, Comes Out Of The Repair Bay
Big, pink, and shiny…it’s fabulous!
Great For A Hot Summer Day: Japanese Invent Non-melting Ice Cream
Right now in Texas we are suffering through a heat wave. Yeah, it’s summer, but 103° and 80% humidity gets old real fast. Ice cream that doesn’t melt? Enner shouts, “Science helps mankind once again!”

Runners Up:

The Moonwalker Is Dead, Please Insert Another CoinEstelle says, I feel so young, for I’ve never heard of this game’s existence. I feel so old (-_-)
Breaking Wind, Breaking Bones; Air Assault: Shymalan’s The Last Airbender Teaser: I was pleasantly surprised. I expected more fart jokes. Although…Kuroneko says, “i swear i creamed my jeans… o_o”
ARhrrrr Brings Augmented Reality To The Zombie Apocalypse: Like Project Natal, more augmented reality projects seem to be in development. In the coming years we’re going to see some amazing stuff.

Fun factoids: I celebrated my own birthday this month. Booze, burgers, and the most awesomo! cake ever.

TanGetSome.jpg

With the world on the brink of a global pandemic, you may have missed our more popular posts preparing for the apocalypse. Don’t miss out! Subscribe to our RSS Feed or follow us on Twitter. DD-Tan will protect you. Here’s what you had to say:

Beg For More: Bayonetta To Be “Sadistically Hard”

Director Hideki Kamiya hopes to make gameplay with our hair-clad dominatrix sadistically hard, but desfunk is planning on pussing out - at least give us the option of an easy mode, just so we can at least beat it, even if we have to pussy out in the process. – If you haven’t already, watch the trailer.

Dark Diamond Interview: Tarn Adams [Technical Issues edition]

Dasuraga sits down with Tarn Adams to discuss the endless possibilities of Dwarf Fortress.

Foa boasts - I am currently building a heavy defensive siege line, and don’t even try stealthily sneaking, my dogs will rip your parts off, and get propelled into the lava pit by the Hammer Dwarves. <– I have no idea what that means.

Hip Eye For The Otaku Guy: Even You, Could Be A Fashionable Trend Setter, Without Trying!

FBINinja finds us animu attire and the general consensus is that it’s all sweet.

A Matter Of Perspective: Six Days In Fallujah Cancelled

Getting deep is not something we do very often at DarkDiamond and into quite the discussion Nahu candidly sums it all up - In other words: some countries give a shit, others dont.

Game Boy Turns 20: Share Your Fondest GB Memories!

Klatu takes us down memory lane - When I was 10 my parents gave me the only gaming system I was allowed to have: a Gameboy. I spent hours playing Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I was so intensely into this game that I cried when I couldn’t get past the swamp level and couldn’t get the gauntlet. I woke up at 6:45 on saturday mornings and would play in bed t’ill noon…   Ahhh the good ‘ole days.

As we close the month of April, the team here at DarkDiamond have been thinking up some great stuff for you in May. Come often, stay connected and comment. On a personal note, thank you all for your congrats on my nuptials. It was amazing and I look forward to sharing my experience at Hotel Tomo and show some pictures on our Facebook page.

Nahu gives otakus everywhere hope for a realistic maid fembot, but Geirskogul poses in interesting question.

Nothing can be spared from moe-ification, not even punk rock. Offspring, Nirvana…the list only gets worse.

Now you’re up to speed, don’t let this happen again or we’ll make a movie about a Japanese fembot forming a moe punk band with her Xbox live friends. Hmm that actually doesn’t sound that bad, now where’s that business card from Cerenzie-Peters Productions…
