Looks like Microsoft’s strategy in Japan is finally starting to pay off. According to the popular game and entertainment site Famitsu, the Xbox 360 is the top selling console in Japan for the week of September 8th to the 14th. Here is the numbers breakdown:
Xbox 360: 28,681 units
Wii: 27,057 units
PLAYSTATON 3: 8,050 units
While shocking, there are reasons for this sudden jump in sales numbers. First and foremost, is the recent glut of JRPGS, such as Infinite Undiscovery, Tales of Vesperia, and the upcoming Star Ocean 4 to name a few. This, in combination with a hefty pricecut, it is easy to see why even the most staunch Japanese gamer may be swayed over. The real test for Microsoft’s flagship gaming system will be if it can hold on to the lead in the weeks to come, or at least maintain a respectable amount of sales in comparison with their earlier performance in Japan.
Oh yeah, watch out for flying pigs.
