Rubberduckzilla!!!

Somebody at Oasis clearly knows what appeals to young otaku men. They ticked every box for this commercial. 2 girls on a bed in netball outfits: check. One girl feeding the other a tasty beverage as she has her mouth suggestively wide open: check. Japanese dialogue: check. Japanese girls screaming “No!” in high pitched voices: check. A city being attacked by sonic rays: check. A J-Pop jingle: check, check, check! All that was missing was some up-skirt panty shots, a school uniform, and a bit of para para.

TV commercials in the UK pretty much suck. It goes in phases. Sometimes you’ll get lots of cool adverts air at a given time, then you’ll get a load of shit ones. So this definitely stuck out to me and my mates when it aired. It threw me through a loop. Because I never though an advert so Japanesey would air on UK TV. Who knows! It could be a new trend thing. Especially as this comes after the Mikado advert.

For those who want to see more of the girls in the ad, you can watch them giggling and mucking about on a laptop here. And if you’ve got a webcam and mic setup on your desktops or laptops, you can play the official Rubberduckzilla games here.

Note to OL’s: How NOT to aquire Pocky in the workplace

We all know of those chocolate covered biscuit sticks known as Pocky, right? Well now Glico have saved UK Pocky lovers the hassle of finding Asian supermarkets, Anime conventions and trekking to London’s Chinatown just to buy them. Because they are now available in every supermarket and convenience store under the new name Mikado! I hate the name change, but love the advert that comes with it.

Japanese OL and upskirt photocopying for the win! Aside from making me laugh, it makes me want to go and buy a pack of Mikado. To snack on of course! Not place on high shelves above photocopiers to tempt ladies in the office at work.

The official UK Super Mario Galaxy launch

Official SMG launch

I feel so dirty. I went and attended a midnight launch for a game. Despite being able to buy it the next day much cheaper at my local supermarket, not being able to play it when I got home anyway and promising myself that I’d never, ever attend a midnight launch again after f’ing and blinding how shitty the official UK Wii launch was. But lo and behold. I found myself at another midnight launch. For another Nintendo product and also on the same street the Wii launch took place. *sighs* I tell ya. The things I do for Nintendo.

Snag ‘Super Mario Galaxy’ a day early across the UK

Super Mario Galaxy @ GAME GAME (the largest retailer of video games in the UK for those who don’t know) are holding launch events from 6pm to 9pm where they will be officially selling Super Mario Galaxy a day early and also dishing out some Nintendo and Super Mario themed goodies, one of which includes an umbrella! This event will be held at the following stores…

  • London: Oxford Street
  • Manchester: Trafford
  • Birmingham: Bullring
  • Glasgow: Sauchehall street
  • Gateshead: Metro centre
  • Cardiff: Queen street
  • Belfast: Donegail arcade
  • Dublin: Dawson street

There will also be some cosplay going down at the events, with a free copy of Super Mario Galaxy going to the best cosplayer.

I may actually attend the Oxford street event, seeing as I have this Thursday off of work, have a couple of friends who work within that area whom I could meet up with and I actually need to start some Christmas shopping. I swore after attending the official UK Wii launch (which also took place at Oxford street) that I’d never attend a launch gig again. But seeing as this one is at a socialable hour and I can make a complete day of it – I’ll take the bait. Plus, I want a damn umbrella. I lost my last one at Uni. So I’m hoping to snag a cool new one for free. When you live in the UK you should never turn up a chance at a free umbrella. It rains 11 months of the year over here.
