Well, after 11 years, four redesigns, and numerous series, Cartoon Network has removed Toonami from it’s Friday night programming, replacing it with a new one-hour block featuring The Clone Wars and some other show about cryptids or some crap. The above video is the final broadcast from Toonami, in which Steven Blum, (The voice of TOM and of Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop) says goodbye to the viewers, ending it with his famous final line from Cowboy Bebop: "Bang".
Seeing as how I grew up watching this set of shows, today is one of the sadder days in my life. Toonami introduced me to anime. I remember first seeing Outlaw Star and loving it to death. Even though the block was in a decline over the last few months, it’s still sad to see the block that brought so many people into the world of anime die off just because it wasn’t as popular as it once was. Thankfully, the kind people over at Mogulus have a Toonami Channel up, and are streaming classic episodes of Outlaw Star, Dragonball Z, Sailor Moon, and more.
According to Wikipedia, Toonami Jetstream, Toonami’s online streaming service, will remain on-line. However, they will drop the Toonami name from the front. No word has been made on whether or not the programming will change.
